Motorola Droid Mini vs Sony Xperia ZR compared
The Sony Xperia ZR is a recent release in some regions, and the Motorola Droid Mini is to release in August on Verizon. Both of these are Android smartphones with similar sized displays, so we’re giving you a Motorola Droid Mini vs. Sony Xperia ZR comparison, to show what they each have to offer.
The Motorola Droid Mini has a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro dual-core processor, while the Sony Xperia ZR totes a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor.
There’s a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display on the Droid Mini, with resolution of 1280 x 720 and 342 ppi. On the other hand the Xperia ZR has a 4.55-inch TFT display with resolution of 1280 x 720 323 ppi.
RAM and Storage
The Droid Mini has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, but this is non-expandable. The Xperia ZR has the same 2GB of RAM and this time only 8GB of internal storage. However, this is expandable via microSD to 32GB.
The Droid Mini has a 10-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video capture, along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The Xperia Z has a 13.1-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video capture, as well as a VGA front-facing camera.
Android 4.2 Jelly Bean runs the Droid Mini, and the Xperia ZR runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Sony’s Bravia Engine 2.
Dimensions and Color Options
The Droid Mini measures 121.3mm x 61.3mm x 8.9mm and weighs 130g. It’s only available in black. Meanwhile the Xperia ZR measures 131.3mm x 67.3mm x 10.5mm and weighs 138g. The ZR comes in black, pink, white or mint color options.
Both of these handsets have NFC, LTE connectivity (where applicable), and Bluetooth 4.0. However the Droid Mini has Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac whle the Xperia ZR has Wi-Fi a/b/g/n. Although the Droid Mini is splash resistant, the Xperia ZR is dust and water proof to IP58 standard.
Hopefully this will give you an idea of some of the differences and also similarities of these two handsets. The Sony Xperia ZR has the better processor for example, and although it has less internal storage than the Droid Mini, this is expandable up to 32GB. The Droid Mini runs the later version of Android Jelly Bean, but the Xperia ZR is likely to upgrade to that at some point.
