WhatsApp with voice messages to rival BBM, WeChat and more

#

The way smartphone users now communicate with each other has changed a great deal over the last few years with users no longer relying on SMS messages as part of their phone bundles. A number of applications are available that offer better value for money, and WhatsApp with voice messages is to rival the likes of BBM, WeChat and more.

While users of Android and iOS are waiting for the release of BBM that looks to be coming next month, millions of people are users of the popular WhatsApp service. Previously users could only communicate via text based chat but now after an update it offers voice messages.

The likes of Facebook Messenger and WeChat already offer such options, and the new function added to WhatsApp could make the service even more popular in countries that have harder to type languages.

It has been in development for six months and users won’t have a limit put on the length of the voice messages that are sent, and these are done via a quick tap and keeping the finger pressed while you are recording your message.

According to the CEO of the company, Jan Koum, the number of taps that are needed to do things on our smartphone are important, as users want to quickly “send a message and be on their way”. The messages sent will be delivered via the handsets earpiece if the user has it to their ear or via the speakerphone if it isn’t.

For the time being there is no way for users to make real time voice or video calls like you can with the likes of Skype, but this latest update has been made available for Android, BlackBerry, iOS, and Windows Phone platforms.
