Samsung ATIV Tab 3 price and date revealed
The Samsung ATIV Tab 3 Windows 8 tablet was announced back in June, and the price and date have finally been revealed. Some readers have been patiently waiting for further details about the ATIV Tab 3, and we can now tell you that it will release on September 1 with a price tag of $699.99.
The ATIV Tab 3 runs the latest full Windows 8 version rather than Windows RT, but does not have the ability offered by the ATIV Q where the user can switch between Windows 8 and the Google Android OS. Samsung claims that the ATIV Tab 3 is the thinnest Windows 8 tablet available, at only 0.31-inches thick and weighing in at 1.28 pounds.
The latest iPad by comparison, is 0.37-inches thick and weighs 1.44 pounds, so the ATIV Tab 3 certainly fits the bill of being lightweight and slim. It’s powered by an Intel Atom Z2760 processor, has a 10.1-inch display with resolution of 1366 x 768, 2GB of RAM, 64GB SSD, and expandable storage via microSD. A single battery charge is said to give around 7 hours use.
As well as these specs the ATIV Tab 3 comes with an S Pen digital stylus and there’s also a cover that features a kickstand and built-in Bluetooth keyboard. Samsung is also giving purchasers Microsoft Office Home and Student.

Hi i am about to purchase a tablet for the first time. Currently interested in the ativ tab 3 but I was wondering whether 7h of battery life is rather poor for tablets?
I would not purchase this device because it seems underpowered for a serious windows 8 tablet. I would avoid anything running an atom processor until the new processors come out. It would be ok to browse the web and do basic tasks but not much else. The only saving grace is that it comes with office installed apparently but you can get similar tablets and more powerful laptops far cheaper.
what are some similar tablets for cheaper? I need to get a tablet for school as opposed to a laptop, so I’m genuinely interested.
What I’ve found so far is the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 for $515. However, that doesn’t include the active stylus, keyboard or cover, or office.
The Lenovo Miix 10 is similar too for $479 – definitely cheaper, but no digitizer pen support.
Nexus 10 is $399. Runs on Android though and I don’t think it is capable of digitizer pen support either.
Thank you Bob and G star for your opinions! 🙂 I’m rather skeptical about the intel atom processors too but i think i’ll leave that to the youtube tech review people to test it out before writing it off 😛

Amanda – G star has some good points, but it’s really what you need not what they prefer.
1. The battery will last all day if you charge it at night and use it off an on during the day. Rarely does anyone play 7 straight hours of video, it just doesn’t happen.
2. The advantages of the this tablet over most like it are
a) Size (the thinnest, and very lightweight) of the full Windows 8 tablets
b) S-Pen (no other tablet like this has inking)
c) The keyboard cover (well done, unique, and included)
d) SideSync for Samsung Android phones
e) Microsoft Office
Those are some serious advantages. I have the HP Envy X2 with similar specs, but this one is clearly better. Of course, you can always wait for the next generation. I guarantee that whenever you buy, a better product will be out in 6 months or less. That’s just the pace of technology today.
I’m interested in the Samsung Ativ Q, because I write code, want more power, and I’m 6’4″ so the size is relative. However, most people never use that power and want something small and lightweight, and that’s why the iPad was so successful. All the IT geeks thought no one would want something so limited, we were wrong. If a tablet can check social status, write email, browse the web, watch Netflix, and play a couple games, then 95% of the people are happy. When you add Microsoft Office, it probably goes to 98%.
You might be in the 2% that needs more power, or you may want to wait for the next generation, but that doesn’t mean this tablet won’t make a majority of the people happy.
I don really know if it is just me, whenever I see Intel “Atom” processors I stop buying stuffs!!!
that keyboard is clutch, for 700 i will strongly look at it, this has EVERYTHING i need basically, i hate windows 8 but microsoft office will make it worth it alone…
