There are some great apps available and some of these are perfect for the more forgetful among us. You’ll know what I mean if you are often embarrassed by the fact that someone’s birthday or anniversary has passed you by. With this in mind we’ve rounded up some of the best free iPhone anniversary and birthday reminder apps to give you a helping hand.

We’ll begin with the Anniversary Reminder app, and this is a free app compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation, 4th and 5th generation) and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later. This app means you should never forget an important date again and gives you an early reminder that a birthday or anniversary is coming up. You can also set it to give you a 100th day or 1000th day reminder for a specific event, to mark so many days of a relationship for example.

The next app we want to suggest to you is called When — Anniversary reminder for iPhone and iPad. This is another free app from iTunes and has exactly the same compatibility requirements as the first app we detailed. This has simple functionality as it keeps a list of friends and notifies you with badge icons or local notifications about birthdays, although not with push notifications. The app also allows users to import friends from Facebook and Contacts, edit friends, and inform about friends who have recently had a birthday, have one that day, or will have it soon.

My Anniversary Calendar: Birthday Reminder is another useful free app and is suitable for devices running iOS 4.3 or later. This is another reminder app that will tell you ahead of time about upcoming important dates and other plans. You’ll automatically receive advance notifications of birthdays and can import birthday information from Facebook. Direct messages with birthday wishes can also be send from the app, and you can also edit notification timings. Push notification reminders are used and it also features a calendar display.

Next we have My Anniversary Countdown. Although our article is primarily concerned with free apps we thought it was worth slipping this one in. This app is priced at $0.99 and again it has exactly the same compatibility requirements as the first app we detailed here. The app allows you to set the date of your anniversary, and then it will calculate the time until that day. You can also add a photo with the built-in camera or from the camera roll and share the countdown with friends, family, or your partner. Updates can be sent via email or text message, and for Twitter and email you can also include a screenshot of the countdown. Alerts can be scheduled as often as required, for example an hour, day, week, month, or even a year before the anniversary.

Our final app choice is Birthday Alarm — Free Birthday Reminders and Greetings Cards. This app is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation, 4th and 5th generation) and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later. You’ll receive free birthday reminders for family and friends by email and push notifications, and you can also send free funny, cute or sentimental greetings cards. Custom greetings cards can also be created using your own photos and the app also features a birthday infographic showing important data about a date of birth. This app has just been updated with additional greetings cards now available as well as bringing some of the features above.
