Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs Note 2 specs differences

#

One of the biggest days on the smartphone calendar this year saw the official introductions of both the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and also the Sony Xperia Z1 aka Honami. We’ve given some first details for the Galaxy Note 3, and now we want to turn our attention to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs. Note 2 specs differences.

The Galaxy Note 3 release takes place later this month, and many of you will be wondering whether to invest in this new Android phablet-style smartphone. Alternatively you may already have the Galaxy Note 2 and might be wondering if it’s worthwhile upgrading to the Note 3.

Hopefully, by looking at how the specs have changed with the latest iteration of the Galaxy Note this will help you make a decision. We’ll start by looking at the processor, display and storage of each device.

The Galaxy Note 2 has a 1.6GHz Exynos quad-core processor, a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display with resolution of 1280 x 720 and 267 ppi, 2GB of RAM, and 16, 32 or 64GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD to 64GB.

Meanwhile the Galaxy Note 3 has either a 1.9GHz Exynos Octa-core processor or a 2.3Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor (dependent on region), a 5.7-inch full HD Super AMOLED display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 386 ppi, 3GB of RAM, and 32 or 64GB of internal storage, also expandable via microSD to 64GB.

The camera set-up for the Note 2 is an 8-megapixel rear camera, with 1080p video capture and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. The Galaxy Note 3 on the other hand has a 13-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video capture (4K for some markets), and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter.

Other specs for the Galaxy Note 2 include a 3100 mAh battery, HSPA+ and LTE radios, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC and it launched running the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system (upgradable). The Galaxy Note 3 has a 3200 mAh battery, HSPA+ and LTE Advanced radios, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC, and will release running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Finally we’ll move on to dimensions and weights of both handsets. The Galaxy Note 2 measures 151.1mm x 80.5mm x 9.4mm and weighs 180g. The Note 3 measures 151.2mm x 79.2mm x 8.3mm and weighs in at 168g.

Obviously the two phones will also have some feature differences, but for now we’re concerning ourselves with the specs. As you can see the Note 3 has a better processor, larger display size with higher resolution, more RAM, and steps up to an improved camera.

The Galaxy Note 3 also has a slightly higher battery capacity, will launch running the latest Android operating system, has improvements to the S Pen stylus and is both lighter and slimmer. Only you can decide whether these differences are enough to consider purchasing the Note 3, but we think the Galaxy Note 3 will be another huge success for Samsung.

What are your initial thoughts on the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone? Based on specs alone, are you considering buying this device or upgrading from the Galaxy Note 2? We’re always interested in hearing what readers have to say so feel free to send your comments to us.
