BBM for Android uncertain, iPhone app imminent

#

If you’re an Android or iOS device owner and have been waiting for the BlackBerry Messenger app to arrive, then you will know that it has seemed a long wait. BlackBerry originally stated that the apps would be available in the summer, so they should be arriving very soon. Now it appears that the release of BBM for Android is uncertain, but for the iPhone it could be imminent.

BlackBerry’s recent woes have been well documented and the company really needs to release these apps as soon as possible. Although many are expecting the Android and iOS apps for Android to release simultaneously, this may not be the case.

There have been many occasions where Android users have been left waiting for a popular app for some time after the iOS version has become available, and this can cause a certain amount of frustration. Android apps can sometimes be delayed as developers have to take into account the various versions of the operating system that are currently being used.

However, we recently discussed how the iPhone app will have to be officially approved by Apple before being ready on the App Store. This submission process usually takes around one week or less, but of course this does mean that fake BBM iOS apps won’t make it to the App Store, whereas the Android platform has already seen fake BBM apps reach Google Play.

Considering how important these BBM apps are, you may have imagined that the Android app may actually arrive first in this case, as it will not have to wait for official clearance. There’s still time of course, but news now suggests that the iPhone app is very close.

BlackBerry mobile manager Alex Kinsella tweeted yesterday saying that the iPhone BBM app had in fact been submitted to the App Store two weeks ago. This is great news for iPhone users waiting for the app to go cross-platform as there’s now no reason why it shouldn’t release literally any day now.

The one thing that does surprise us though, is that it’s already been in the review process for two weeks, and we wonder why it’s taking rather longer than usual for the app to be approved. Hopefully this doesn’t signify any snags with the app. Maybe BlackBerry would rather release both the iOS app and Android app together anyway?

In the Northern Hemisphere summer officially ends on September 21, so BlackBerry hasn’t got too much time left to deliver on its promise regarding the release of BBM for Android and iOS. An official landing page (here) is now available where you can sign up to receive notification on when the apps go live and are available to download.

We’ll be certain to pass on news to readers regarding the Android and iOS BBM apps, but for now it seems that the iOS app at least is just around the corner. For Android device users the situation is unclear, but of course the apps could still both arrive at virtually the same time.

Are you one of the many Android or iPhone users waiting for BBM on Android or iOS? Do you think that the Android or iOS version will be first to the line, or that maybe BlackBerry will make sure they release simultaneously? Which version are you waiting for?

That is because BBM for Android will be available on Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones before any other manufacturer. Also, the app will be available in Africa first.Ghana aired the commercial for BBM last week already

Blackberry posted the “BBM for Android and IOS is here” page on their website with the active links where you can download BBM,but was soon withdrawn. There’s a page on Facebook you can join to stay updated. The page is called Samsung Galaxy. They only have over a 100 likes, but they keep everyone up to date regarding BBM.Join the page

Other smartphone manufacturers may have to wait months before they will be able to download it.This is because Samsung is dominating the Android market

Samsung start advertising BBM with their smartphones, but never did they say anything about the app being exclusive to Samsung….so stop spreading false stuff

    BULLSHIT article.
Android apps can be submitted and approved on the same day.
Once IOS is cleared android can be submitted.

BBM is strictly 4.0 and upwards.

This article is full of bull. Very misleading and inaccurate reporting. Google Play may actually get this app before iOS. And we know that Samsung(Android) is working really hard to ensure they get it first, at least in some parts of the world (Africa). I personally am more certain of the andriod version hitting stores sooner than iOS.
