iPhone 5S vs Galaxy Note 3 vs Galaxy S4 in spec comparison

#

The smartphone market is getting extremely crowded and Apple added to this yesterday with the announcement of two new handsets, and today we are looking at the iPhone 5S vs. Galaxy Note 3 vs. Galaxy S4 in a spec comparison.

The dust has now settled on the keynote speech by Apple which led to the unveiling of two new smartphones from the company, but how does the flagship model compare against the competition in terms of specs?

Display
The iPhone 5S has a 4-inch display with 326ppi and comes with a resolution of 1136 x 640, which compares to the Galaxy Note that has a 5.7-inch Full HD screen at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 386ppi. This compares to the Galaxy S4 that has a Full HD 5-inch display at resolution 1920 x 1080 and a 441ppi.

Processor & RAM
Apple’s new device features the A7 64-bit processor but the company hasn’t specified the amount of RAM the handset has. Under the hood of the Note 3 is either the 1.9GHz Exynos Octa-core processor or a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor with 3GB of RAM. On the Galaxy S4 you have either the1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad core processor or a 1.6GHz Exynos Octa core processor and 2GB of RAM.

Cameras
On the iPhone 5S there is a new an 8-megapixel rear camera with 1.5µ pixels with the new True Tone dual flash for better low-light pictures and is capable of Full HD video capture at 30fps, while around the front is a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime Camera. On the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 you will find a 13-megapixel rear facing shooter with a 2-megapixel unit on the front with both handsets featuring a number of features such as Dual Shot.

Storage
The iPhone 5S comes in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB options with no expansion possible, while the two Samsung handsets are listed with the same internal storage options as the iPhone 5S but this can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card.

Dimensions & Weight
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 measures 151.2mm x 79.2mm x 8.3 mm weighing 168grams, which compares to the Galaxy S4 at 136.6mm x 69.8mm x 7.9 mm and 130grams, and the new iPhone 5S is 123.8mm x58.6mm x 7.6mm, and it weighs just 112grams.

Operating System
The iPhone 5S will come with the new iOS 7 operating system while the Galaxy Note 3 will launch running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and the Galaxy S4 is currently sitting on Android 4.2.2.

We will be able to have a better comparison between the three handsets once the iPhone 5S and Galaxy Note 3 become available, with the Apple handset being released on the 20th of this month in certain countries which is five days before the Note 3 starts to hit the shelves in some regions.

I feel sorry for Apple because they are out of ideas, iphone 5s specification are terrible: iphone 5s still dual core and only has 1gb of ram, 8mp camera, has the worst screen resolution: 1136×640 and they should atleast increase the ppi because they have the smallest screen: 4inch but they put only 326 ppi, the battery is the worst battery out there. I believe apple will end up like Nokia. I believe It’s time for me to move to Samsung because all my friends warned me and already left me behind. galaxy Note 3 destroyed iphone 5s and the company period.

    1. Vince Leung says:

You’re kidding right? The iphone 5s’ battery life is one of the best one out there. You can say the capacity of it’s battery is not as high as the samsung galaxy s4 and the galaxy note 3, but their high speed processor, high resolution would drain their battery life. While the iphone’s processor and screen resolution is battery sufficient. The proccessor is fast even though it’s dual core, the screen is still beautiful compared to full hd screens due to the retina display. The samsung galaxy s4’s camera may have a 13 mp camera, but compared to the iphone 5’s 8 mp camera( the iphone 5s’ predecessor) can still take better pictures. Hence the iphone 5s’s camera is still better than the samsung galaxy s4 and the samsung galaxy note 3. I could go on about why the iphone 5s’ camera is better, but i would waste my breath. Next time you should make sure you know everything about the iphone before you could compare and judge.

Ahhh…. Another die hard Apple junkie not understanding industrial trend. Apple is going into a slow but certain spiral. The comment “high speed processor, high resolution would drain their battery life” is quite funny. Like saying “Carrera engines are higher performance than Civic engines, so it uses more gas.” Ayup! I will take that Carrera, if I can afford it. But wait! Samsung phones are less expensive if you consider how much they can be expanded! In 3, 5 years, another formidable foe will rise to challenge Samsung for the lead, but this current battle is over, especially after the dismal introduction of 5S yesterday.

        1. Johnny says:

Your analogy with the car engine makes no sense. Faster processors normally demand more voltage, and an 8 cylinder engine could most likely use more gas than a 4 cylinder engine.

          1. Schooling says:

            Johnny, Johnny, Johnny…

High school physics. Faster processors use more POWER – either higher voltage (V) or higher current (I), or combination thereof resulting in higher P=VI. Faster cars require more POWER – either higher angular velocity (A) or higher torque (T), or combination thereof resulting in higher P=AT.

Regardless, what matters is throughput, or work over time. It is conceivable that a 4 cylinder engine can put out more power than an 8 cylinder engine, if run at higher speed – like Lotus!

But getting to the main point above, it is laughable that someone is going to complain about better performance because it uses more energy. Sure, iPhone 3 batteries last far longer than iPhone 5S batteries – because it is SLOWER! But would you choose iPhone3? I would rather discuss Galaxy phones not having enough battery capacity to power themselves as long as iPhones do. That is a viable argument. Just means their P=VI to battery capacity ratio is inadequate. Perhaps this is even what Vince Leung tried (but failed) to convey. Whatever the right ration is, I would think that is the design/marketing decision of the manufacturer.

        lol now leme speak,
iphone 5S bragging about new BURST MODE & SLOWMO???
Last years Note 2 had those Burst Mode & SlowMo features.
= 1 year old tech…. LOL!!! apple just stole samsungs camera features.

      3. Android authority../ says:

Its u who dunno anything ‘vince’ …… 5s’s battery may match the s4’s but its cannot match note 3’s battery ……. moreover 5s is no gud fr gaming cuz its small scrn nd a far too slow processor…//

  2. Samsung says:

When I worked for Samsung many years ago in Seoul, the chairman of the group Lee broadcasted internally, “LG is not our competitor. Panasonic is not our competitor. Apple is our competitor.” At the time, it came across as buffoonery since Samsung was so removed that market space. Now, he comes across as genius. Mind you, I am far from being a personal fan of the guy – rather the opposite. But he does have vision and drive. Starting with semiconductors, then smart devices. I understand he is preaching for software now…

  3. Kampala Boy says:

you guys think don’t know what u r talking about. iPhone 5S is so far the best phones ever made. samsung was caught off guarded thats why it also announced to build a 64bit processor Galaxy. and mind you Apple has been the biggest funder of samsung semiconductor business and Apple now is shifting to Taiwan that mains your Samsung is going to break. its has been always copying Apple. Oct processor in Galaxy was an expensive mistake you can only use four cores thats why Samsung decides to use snapdragon 4cores from its competitor Qualicom..which cheaper and far more stable the that of samsung. let assure apple still leads the market…do more research and see how Galaxies are struggling…LMAO

    1. mike says:

You are crazy, and by the looks of it you used your apple product to type your “MESSage” above. who is copying who? i see apple with a pull down notification bar that has been and started on the very first android phone the htc g1. and it has been proven that with a little creativity you can get all 8 cores operating at once.

    2. Barry Findlay says:

Apple had to go back to Samsung to produce the A7 cos TSMC couldn’t do it. Samsung was not caught of guard. Everyone knew about 64bit since ARM announced the design in 2011. There was no point to samsung or HTC etc making 64bit chips till android was 64bit ready. Samsung have also used Qualcomm chips lately because they are busy re tooling production lines for 64bit Octa and building your precious Apple A7. Its a tactically solid move for samsungs future.

I’ve used iPhone, now using Note 2 and definitely Note beats out iPhone in many aspects (or most) BUT i do miss the ease and simplicity of using iPhone and now that I;ve experienced large phones (I got it to be able to read kindle easy) I will be going back to smaller phones and likely that will be iPhone as I;m used to the simplicity. Phones and digital devices should be setup to be used as easy as possible. Samsung does so many things that it takes forever to learn. Mind you, most of those things i rarely use and can easily be without, thus in my opinion there should be phones for everyone and iphone and Samsung should be different. If iPhone starts making larger screens that may be a bad move (unless they make few different sizes) as it does make it harder and more annoying to carry in you pocket. Feels nice to view large 15cm screen but carrying it all the time is a little awkward.

People should not argue about these phones, they all have somethingthat makes them interesting and you should just get what you ant at the moment.
