Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update race

#

After weeks of teases and leaks the latest version of the Android mobile operating system has been launched alongside the new LG Nexus 5 that will be the first device to run the software. Now this latest release restarts the race for handset OEMs to try and get the software out to hardware with the Samsung Galaxy S4 playing a big part.

We have already heard about HTC’s plans for the update as well as a way for owners of Motorola hardware to check to see what the future plans are for their device and the update. The HTC One is tipped by the company to receive the new version of Android within 90 days, and now it will be up to other manufacturers to get their acts together and get working on providing the firmware for the various handsets that are in existence.

The new operating system brings with it a number of new features that includes improved memory management and some extra security enhancements. There is also extra support for lower spec hardware that was rumoured previously.

Google has already revealed what devices will be getting Android 4.4 KitKat in the coming weeks that include the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and Google Play Editions of the HTC One and Galaxy S4. You would have thought though that Samsung would be working flat out getting this year’s flagship handsets that also includes the Galaxy Note 3 upgraded to the new firmware.

As HTC has already laid its cards on the table regarding the update you would think that Samsung would be busy trying to beat its rival by releasing Android 4.4 KitKat for the Galaxy S4 first. We have already heard that the software will eventually be coming to the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, which should be receiving Android 4.3 at anytime now.

Do you think that Samsung will get Android 4.4 out before HTC?

4.4 on HTC ? You have to be joking am in the UK and haven’t even got 4.3 upgrade yet. Love HTC one but upgrade times are slow. There will be people who chose HTC over Samsung and now wondering why they did?

same here i own the galaxy S4 in the UK and i haven’t seen android 4.3. am thinking of rooting my phone as the google edition galaxy s4 is compatible with my S4. you could do the same for your HTC One.

I haven’t had 4.3 on my GT-I9505 yet either. Supposedly one of my colleagues got 4.4 this morning on his, but I didn’t actually see it to believe it.

I got my 4.3 update on my s4 (i9505) last oct 24 here in the philippines. Almost a week after it was officially first released in germany. UK vodafone S4 just recieved the update today. Australia update is still pending… check out sammobile website for the 4.3 rollout on S4 i9095.

My 4.3 update is specifically for my country. Other southeast asian languages are supported like baha indonesia and malaysia. Some language options are not written in english alphabet so I can’t recognize it. It could be thai but I really can’t tell. There’s a pending 4.3 update for thailand for s4 i9500. If you have that model, check for software update on your phone from time to time. It would probably have thai language.

4.3 update is coming late november or december. This is just speculation on the web. Samsung just want to finish the rollout for s4 and then s3 and note2 will receive the update. You have to consider the numbers of sold units of s4 world wide and how much flooded their servers are during the update. Eventually, you’ll receive the update. Just be patient. 4.3 update will be compatible to support the samsung gear.

I don’t care anymore, when the Lumia 1520 comes out I am changing over to Windows Phone. I honestly don’t like Samsung that much and this Motorola makes better phones. Only thing that made me buy the S4 was that I didn’t know the new RAZR MAXX was coming soon. The IR blaster is the only thing the S4 has on other devices.

hi, mine is unlocked version and i got 4.3 on November 1st. i think if you could unlock your phone from orange then maybe you will be able to update. however i didn’t see any big improvement.

No. Samsung has way too many models of the s4. Check on Wikipedia there’s like 8 models or something. Also, HTC already has 4.3, Samsung is still rolling out. I have the i337m and haven’t heard anything about 4.3 yet.
