Android 4.4 KitKat problems increase as new update nears
We have been hearing a number of issues in the last few weeks with various mobile operating systems, and it seems issues are not restricted to older versions of the firmware. We now have news that Android 4.4 KitKat problems are on the increase as a new update nears.
Since Google launched the latest version of its mobile operating system we have seen the firmware reaching more hardware, but it soon became apparent that some owners of the Nexus 4 were experiencing problems with the handsets home button along with a couple of other issues.
It seems though that issues are not restricted to the Nexus 4 as reports of problems are coming in from Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 owners as well. Some owners of the Nexus 7 have been hit with problems with video playback but a more serious issue has been affecting a number of devices.
Users have been complaining about an Exchange bug that has been affecting email accounts as well as killing the battery life of the device, which is affecting owners of the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7.
Google is reportedly aware of the problem but as of yet no fix has been provided, and some Nexus 7 owners are complaining that their tablet is suffering from lag and slower than usual charging rate. There have also been reports of issues affecting the display such as auto rotate and the responsiveness of the screen to touch commands.
Some have found a factory reset offers a solution but this isn’t working for all users, but it seems as if an update is getting closer as HTC tipster LLabTooFeR is claiming that the Google Edition of the HTC One is close to being treated to the Android 4.4.1 KitKat update.

On the Nexus 4, the battery life is now just ridiculous. Prior to the update my phone would last at least a day on a full charge, but now it’s been reduced to almost 13 – 15 hours
My Nexus 7 (2012 WiFi only) has run into a few KitKat issues ranging from less than optimal and expected battery endurance to an annoying black screen (not sleep or power based) that sporadically occurs and fixes itself with any touch on the screen. It is most likely to occur during web browsing and games.
When web browsing and run across one of those damn double-click pages requiring a response, all but the highlighted box goes into a giant blur and the screen becomes unreadable. Lastly, my Nexus can lag or zip along without any particular reason, regardless of application load present.
The last two issues are sporadic, and therefore are minor annoyances, but the battery drain is a bit disturbing. My brightness is set at 10%, GPS & location services are turned off unless needed, and still the drain….
While I expect new OS’s to be a work in progress, I join those who look for a fix in the near future.
Yes, My Nexus 5 is getting the can’t connect to server error. Had to install the Exchange app, but that seems a little flakey as well. this sucks….effecting my work email and that is huge for me.
Yep, My Nexus 4, have problems with the Google dialer are not working at all.
after this release. big mess for most of users. big crap release. Shame.
My 2nd gen Nexus 7 got treated with the KK4.4 update last week, and I noticed the same problems covered in the article. Aswell as Android Keyboard freezing, but no force close dialogue tho. Usually it takes 5 to 10 seconds for it to sort it self out. Overall its not a big bug, it’s livable!
4.4 Killed all mail functionality on my Nexus 7 2013. No longer will mail update automatically, or when I manually refresh. Also, my *other* mail now appears like Gmail, the format of which (categories and tabs) I hate, and *cannot* turn off/back to the way it was before. If this was a week, not a month, after I purchased the tablet, it would be going back.
Seriously…can’t figure out how to make EMAIL work? So frustrating.
I am having the same issue as Evan. I have been on hold with Google support now for over 40 minutes and can’t even get someone on the phone.
I have the Nexus 4 and since the update to KitKat 4.4, the battery life has been simply catastrophic. I fully charge it at night and by the end of the day (without heavy use) I’m lucky to have 30% remaining, compared to what it used to be which was usually around the 60% mark.
