iPhone 6 price leap contemplated by Apple

#

The iPhone 6 rumor mill has been gathering pace lately and the latest news today regards pricing of the device. It’s reported that an iPhone 6 price leap is being contemplated by Apple, and it’s for the significant amount of around $100.

Earlier today we heard about new mouldings purported to be for the iPhone 6, and we’ve already seen many more leaks, rumors and concepts about this device. Last month we informed readers about analyst Andy Hargreaves and his prediction of a price increase of around $100 for the iPhone 6. This would make the starting price of the iPhone 6 $299 on the usual two-year contract.

Now this idea is gaining credence with news from well-known Jefferies analyst Peter Misek. In fact Misek not only forecasts this price jump but also says that Apple is already in talks with carriers about a $100 increase. The response from carriers so far has been lukewarm, while at the same time acknowledging that the iPhone 6 could be a “game-changing device.”

There have been conflicting rumors that the iPhone 6 will come in two different sizes, one with a 4.7-inch display and another following with a 5.5-inch screen, and what Misek doesn’t mention is which model this refers to. If it referred to the phablet-sized iPhone 6 then there may be people willing to pay that much more, but at this stage this is unclear.

It’s an interesting discussion point, as many people are hoping that the next premium iPhone is going to be something to really turn heads, with interest in the device already at unprecedented levels. However, whether people are prepared to cough up that much extra cash to pay for something more ground-breaking is open to debate.

We’d really like to hear your views on this. If Apple brings everything to the table for the iPhone 6 and comes up with something very special, would you pay an extra $100 on the starting price? Just what would Apple have to offer for you to think this higher price would be worthwhile? Let us have your comments on this.
