Back in February BlackBerry announced a device called the BlackBerry Q20, made with premium materials and with a QWERTY keyboard. At that time the only thing we knew about when it would release was that it would come in the second half of this year. Now the BlackBerry Q20 has been renamed as the BlackBerry Classic and a release in November has been set.

Although BlackBerry has been struggling just lately it’s evident that many BlackBerry smartphone buyers still prefer the traditional physical keyboard, and so BlackBerry has acknowledged this and is also reintroducing other popular features. In a recent interview BlackBerry CEO John Chen referred to the BlackBerry Q20 as the BlackBerry Classic and said that although it will have a QWERTY keyboard it will also have a “good touch-screen” a speedy browser and multimedia capabilities.

He also referred to the phone as an “enhanced version” of one of the company’s most popular handsets, the BlackBerry Bold. The BlackBerry Classic will have a 3.5-inch touchscreen and a touch pad as well as some of the older feature function keys. It’s also anticipated that the phone will have a better battery life than any other BlackBerry handset.

Chen gave the BlackBerry Classic release date as November when BES12 will also arrive. What does seem rather a shame is that there’s still 7 months to wait until the release of the phone that BlackBerry is hoping will turn things around, and you might have imagined that the company would try to push it out sooner.
