If you have previously been tempted by the Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition but found the price prohibitive then this next information might be interesting to you. The Sony Z Ultra GPe has had a price slash, making it a much more attractive proposition.

Sony has surprised many people with the size of the price cut for this variant of the Xperia Z Ultra, which looks as though it will be a new permanent price as there’s no mention of it being a limited offer. Instead of the previous price of $649 Sony has reduced the cost by more than 30%, now offering the device for $449 with free US shipping.

Of course that’s a very hefty reduction of $200, so if you’ve been holding off making a purchase this could be all the incentive you need. It does suggest that the Sony Z Ultra GPe may not have sold as well as expected, but if you want a phablet with a mammoth 6.4-inch display this could be the right choice for you.
