iOS 8 Continuity features not working on iPhone 4S

#

Apple’s iOS 8 became accessible to millions of device users yesterday, and over the next few days many will be downloading the new update. It has many different improvements and new features, one of which is Continuity that offers seamless handoffs between one Apple device and another. However, some users may be wondering why iOS 8 Continuity features are not working on iPhone 4S.

Those upgrading to the new version of the operating system may want to learn more about iOS 8 Continuity features for their device. Apple Continuity offers a Handoff feature that allows different Apple devices to work together, so that for example if you start writing an email on your iPhone but don’t finish it, you can then continue it on your Mac. This happens automatically when your devices are all signed in to the same iCloud account.

Another example is being able to continue browsing on your iPhone from the same link as where you left it on your iPad. A further benefit is being able to answer calls to your iPhone on your iPad or Mac, or send text messages from those devices. If you want to find out more about iOS 8 Continuity, head to this Apple page.

However, although the iPhone 4S is compatible with iOS 8, that doesn’t mean that all of the features available to other device users are also on offer to the iPhone 4S. Continuity is one of the missing features in iOS 8 for the iPhone 4S and Apple has clarified this by stating, “Continuity features are available on iPhone 5 or later, iPad (4th generation), iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display, and iPod touch (5th generation).”

This makes it clear that the iPhone 4S is a device that was never going to be able to take advantage of Continuity. It’s a different story with the new Health feature though. There’s a lot of interest in the new Health app and iPhone 4S owners will be able to benefit from this thanks to Apple saying, “Health is available on iPhone 4s or later and iPod touch (5th generation).”

You may also be interested to know that not all features of iOS 8 are available for all countries, and you can find out more about that in this article. As well as this, earlier today we discussed battery life for devices running iOS 8, where the iPhone 4S was found to be one of the devices that had seen some improvement in this aspect, but do you agree?

Have you updated your iPhone to iOS 8? Are you disappointed that Continuity is one of the features not working on iPhone 4S? Send your comments to let us know.

I’ve got the 4s and was in fact disappointed to see that it’s not compatible with this feature of iOS8. It was, in fact, that only feature of iOS8 that I was looking forward to. I can make calls through my iPhone 4s through my laptop, but I’m not able to receive calls through the computer.

interestingly, my mac can receive calls through my 4s but make a call. I’ve always got “iPhone calls not available” error when i try to make a call from mac even both of the devices are on the same network and iCloud account

I have an iPhone 4S and an iPad Air. Call Continuity IS WORKING. My iPad rings when my 4S is called. I will let you know about the other features but this was the one that I wanted the most.

Continuity working w/ my mac pro 2014, but not working w/ my macbook pro retina. iphone 4s.

I really hate that they aren’t supporting the 4s with continuity because the iphone 7 will be a big upgrade (inductive charging and sapphire glass are minimum inclusions), and I’d like to wait the year+ that it will take. Now I feel like my 3-4 year old device is no longer worth the effort of their development team and that’s disappointing. Hoping they decide to support it soon, because as a developer and Apple devotee, this is a very annoying oversight.

I have an IPhone 4s and IPad 4th Gen. w/retina display. Upgraded both to IOS 8.0.2 I am able to answer call on my IPad when my IPhone rings and initiate calls on my IPad from my contacts.

Was eagerly waiting for launch of OS X 10.10 for my MBA mid-13 just to use continuity feature but got really disappointed from the fact that it won’t work on iPhone 4S. Wish that people at apple do something to make this work.
