The LG VC-100 is an unannounced CDMA Smartwatch

#

Wearables are slowly starting to creep into the mainstream, and we’ve seen numerous smartwatches released this year. LG was one of the first, and last month they announced a second device with the LG G Watch R. That smartwatch isn’t out yet, and we’re already looking at a third wearable from the company with a new CDMA LG smartwatch.

One of the things that impressed us about the Samsung Gear S is it’s ability to make calls sans the smartphone. That along with a curved display makes the smartwatch standout, but they will soon have some competition from LG. We don’t think it’s a “curved” device like the Gear S, but we know it will have CDMA connectivity as it’s just passed through the FCC.

The new CDMA LG smartwatch carries the model number LG VC-100 and was tested at the end of last month at the FCC. All we know from the listing is that it will have CDMA connectivity and is measures 57.7mm x 35.5mm excluding the strap. It will handle voice and data obviously, and the mock-up of the rear surface/back shows that it has an oblong design like the LG G Watch. Not necessarily square, but definitely not round.

As the LG VC-100 will be a CDMA smartwatch, it’s going to be a bit different from the other G Watch’s so it shouldn’t cannibalize sales. We don’t know a release date, but it’s expected to hit Verizon before the end of the year or during Q1 of 2015.

Would you be interested in a smartwatch that makes calls?
