Original Moto G Android Lollipop update arrives for India

#

There’s good news today for owners of the original Moto G as the Android Lollipop update has arrived for India. This comes only days after invites were sent out to some owners of the device to take part in soak testing for a software release preview. At that time we were pretty sure this must be Android 5.0 Lollipop on the way and that is now confirmed.

Owners of the new Moto G (2014) were already being treated to Lollipop, so when we heard of soak testing for the 2013 Moto G this seemed very promising. We said that if it was indeed for Android 5.0 the official update could arrive very shortly. Now this much-anticipated upgrade to the mobile operating system is rolling out to the Moto G XT1033 dual SIM phone and Motorola has issued official release notes.

This is an over-the-air update and it has arrived just a few days after the company updated the Motorola Update Services app for the Moto G in India. The Lollipop upgrade brings the software to version 220.21.16 and owners of this device will notice plenty of improvements and changes, notably the new look material design for the user interface.

Another benefit that should bring some performance enhancements for the Moto G 2013 edition is new ART runtime, and there are changes for notifications, improved multitasking, new interruptions and downtime settings, a new battery saver mode and much more. You can see the full Motorola India release notes for the Moto G Android 5.0 Lollipop update at this Motorola page

The same page also provides full instructions for owners of the Moto G wishing to install the update. Users should ensure that their device is connected to a WiFi network and have at least 50% charge on the handset. Those who don’t receive notification of the update can check manually by heading to Settings followed by About Phone and then System Updates.

As this update for the original Moto G is now rolling out for India it seems likely that it will also start arriving for other regions very shortly. When we hear more about this we’ll be sure to let you know, and in the meantime if you receive the update elsewhere do be sure to tell us by using the comments box below.

If you’re in India are you pleased that Android 5.0 Lollipop is now rolling out for the 2013 Motorola Moto G? If you have already installed the update why not tell us what you think of the new features and improvements?
