#

Buyers in the smartphone market in India are spoilt for choice right now for reasonably priced handsets. Two recent additions are the Motorola Moto G (2014) and the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, and although the Moto G is the more expensive of the two, there’s not too much in it. They may be on many people’s smartphone shortlists so today we have a Moto G 2nd Gen vs. Samsung Galaxy Core Prime India showdown.

These are both Android smartphones aimed at the more affordable end of the market, so it will be interesting to see how they compare and how much more the Moto G offers for its extra cost. For the purpose of this comparison we’re detailing the Moto G Dual SIM version, and the Galaxy Core Prime is also a dual SIM handset. Let’s crack on with the specs and more.

Processors
The new Moto G has a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and Adreno 305 graphics. The Galaxy Core Prime has a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor and Adreno 306 GPU, so there’s not too much difference here.

Display
The Moto G has a 5-inch IPS LCD display with resolution of 1280 x 720 and 294 ppi. The Galaxy Core Prime has a 4.5-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution resulting in 207 ppi.

RAM and Storage
There’s 1GB of RAM and 8 or 16GB internal storage models (16GB version commonly available in India) expandable to 32GB via microSD for the Moto G. The Galaxy Core Prime has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, this time expandable to 64GB.

Camera set-up
The Moto G has an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 720p video capture, and also a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The Galaxy Core Prime has a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, and 720p video capture, as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing unit.

Price
The Moto G (2014) Dual SIM launched at Rs. 12,999. The price of the recently released Samsung Galaxy Core Prime dual SIM has been up and down like a yoyo, but on our last check it could be found from around Rs. 9,300 depending on retailer.

When choosing between them you should also take into account the designs and build quality, different features of each, and any brand preference you may have. However, on specs alone there’s not that much in it and even the areas of difference aren’t too far apart.

The Moto G 2nd gen benefits from a larger display with higher resolution, a higher megapixel rear camera, and very slightly higher battery capacity. It also runs a later version of Android. On the other hand the Galaxy Core Prime has a higher level of expandable storage, and the advantage of a removable battery. It’s also the lighter and slimmer of the two phones and has the cheaper price tag.

Taking all of this information into consideration, which of these two smartphones are you most likely to buy? Will it be the Moto G 2nd generation, the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, or maybe another handset altogether? We’re always interested to hear your feedback.
