New NVIDIA Shield Tablet in the works with Tegra X1

#

If you play a lot of mobile games, the NVIDIA Shield tablet is hands down the best slate around. Even if you don’t game, it’s still a beastly device and very affordable for the power it packs. NVIDIA always has new processors in the works, and the NVIDIA Shield Tablet 2 will apparently sport one of those new chips.

According to a new report, the follow-up to the NVIDIA Shield Tablet  is in the works and may be released within the next few months. The new slate will have a Tegra X1 under the hood as well, so it will be even quicker than last year’s K1 chip. While no other specs we’re mentioned, it’s not hard to guess the Shield Tablet 2 specs based off the components available and what we saw last year.

The original Shield Tab sported the aforementioned Tegra K1 with an 8-inch FHD display, 2GB of RAM and your choice of 16GB or 32GB of storage. If the upcoming NVIDIA Shield Tablet 2 has the Tegra X1, it should have at least 3GB of RAM this time around. Hopefully, they’ll nix the 16GB storage option and roll with 32GB and 64GB this time around as well.

While we haven’t heard anything official, the Shield Tablet was launched in July of last year, so we expect the company to follow the same timeline for 2015. Keep in mind, the Tegra Shield Tablet 2 is still in “rumor” mode at the moment, but we do fully expect to see a follow-up sometime this year.

What would you like to see out of the next NVIDIA Shield Tablet?

“What would you like to see out of the next NVIDIA Shield Tablet?”……Exclusive games! The Shield needs it’s own identity, it’s too reliant on PC game streaming. There’s more of an appeal to pick one of these up if your a tech enthuthiast, than If you were a gamer, whom it is intended for 🙁
