Redmi 2 price drop coming for India

#

There’s some good news today for our many readers in India about the Xiaomi Redmi 2. This has been an exceptionally popular smartphone as it offers real value for money. Now a Redmi 2 price drop is coming for India that will make it an even more attractive proposition, and it starts tomorrow.

The Redmi 2 arrived for sale in India earlier this year with a price tag of Rs. 6,999. That’s already a very competitive price for a smartphone with 4G LTE connectivity, and now the company has tipped that a new price cut will apply from Tuesday.

Xiaomi has posted teasers on its Redmi India Twitter and Facebook accounts saying, “7th July 10am on mi.com/in. Put it down on your to-do list now.” An image was also included saying, “To-Do: Paint the town red. Get ready to change your phone.” The interesting part of this was the partial reveal of a Rs. 5,999 price, offering a saving of Rs. 1,000.

Although the Redmi 2 has plenty of other affordable rivals (including the Yu Yuphoria, Moto E 2nd gen, Lenovo A6000 Plus and more), this is bound to give sales of the phone in India another boost. This price cut is not too surprising seeing as Xiaomi has already offered price reductions on both the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G and Xiaomi Mi4. Now that the Redmi Note 4G is down to Rs. 7,999 it makes sense to have lowered the cost of the Redmi 2 as well.

For the money the dual SIM Redmi 2 offers a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 processor, a 4.7-inch IPS display with HD resolution of 1280 x 720, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD to 32GB). It has an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing snapper, and 2200 mAh battery, and it runs the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system with Xiaomi’s MIUI 6.
