Sikur GranitePhone with security focus now up for pre-order

#

Some readers will be familiar with the Blackphone 2 and just yesterday we reported on availability of this security-conscious handset for the US. Not so many will have heard of the Sikur GranitePhone, another security-focused device that is now up for pre-order. Its makers claim that the GranitePhone offers even more safety measures than the Blackphone 2.

Sikur spilled the beans on the GranitePhone at MWC earlier in the year, and said that the device was already in development. It’s aimed at protecting the privacy of the user and their data, and pre-orders have just opened. Until November 15th it will be up for grabs for $849 but after that date the price will go up to $999, so it’s not cheap as you might expect. Shipping of the first orders will begin at some point in December.

The smartphone uses a private operating system dubbed Granite OS enabling GranitePhone and Sikur users to have encrypted calls, chat, and messages. There’s also Mobile Device Management (MDM) as well as a remote wipe feature. As far as specs are concerned you’re looking at a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, a 5-inch Full HD display (1920 x 1080), 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage (non-expandable).

Further Sikur GranitePhone specs include a 16-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor and LED flash, an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter, and non-removable 2700 mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC. This is certainly a device of interest and further choice on the market is always welcome. It will be good to see how much of a market there is for it at this price.
