Sevenhugs unveils the Sevenhugs Smart Remote at CES 2016

#

There have been plenty of Smart Home products shown off at CES 2016, and one of the smallest may be one of the coolest. The Sevenhugs Smart Remote is a device you’ll want to look into if you have a lot of connected gear around the house, and it’s built work with a slew of gadgets from brand names big and small.

Universal Remotes are nothing new, and they were game changers when the first made their debut. Well, most smartphones and slates can control your set-top box and TV set these days along with a host of other products. For some of us, using our handset isn’t optimal when we need to turn something on or off which is where the Sevenhugs Smart Remote steps in.

The Sevenhugs Smart Remote is a contextual remote than can be used in a traditional sense or it can be mounted on the wall with its magnetic charger. Buttons have given way to a touchscreen display and Geolocating tech is said to allow you to control most connected devices in your home. That means lights, fans, speakers and almost anything else is fair game. That said, it only appears to have built-in support for Sonos, Philips Hue and Nest at the moment, but more products will be added before launch and there’s an open SDK.

Like a lot of cool gadgets to come out of CES 2016, the Sevenhugs Smart Remote doesn’t have a price tag just yet. The company plans on opening up pre-orders soon, and the gadget is expected to go on sale later this year.
