Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 released!

#

Xiaomi is not stopping releasing and designing new products for our lives, with smartphones being their most successful products. We recently looked at their selfie-oriented smartphone, the Redmi Y1, which was the perfect midrange device with a great front camera. Today, we have the Mi Mix 2 – the next version of the “concept” smartphone that took the world by storm. Let’s see what this device has in store for us.

Design

As with the first one, the Mi Mix 2 is a gorgeous smartphone to look at. The frame is built from aluminum, the back is again from ceramic, while the trim around the camera lens is built from 18k gold. It is glossy though, so expect a lot of fingerprint smudges to appear on the back. On the front, the 6” LCD panel with 2160×1080 resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio fills up the space. The display is excellent, with great viewing angles, decent color saturation and excellent brightness outdoors. The front camera is placed on the bottom right corner, and that is everything that you will find here. On the back, the rear camera is placed in the middle, with the fingerprint sensor right below it. A subtle logo is stretched under the sensors, completing the overall look.

Features

The Mi Mix 2 is a beast of a smartphone. Snapdragon 835 with 2.45gHz, Adreno 540 GPU, 6GB RAM – believe me, it won’t be a slouch! These specs are defining steps for a flagship in 2017, and Xiaomi is not shying away from that title with this device. Anything you throw at the Mix 2 will be handled smoothly, and the MIUI software helps even further for that, with the excellent management of memory. The storage is capped at 128GB, with no slot for MicroSD to expand it, but that should be more than enough. The 3400mAh battery should last you through the day, and in case you need to recharge it fast, Quick Charge 3.0 is available to top it up.

Both the rear and front shooters are excellent, but it is sad to see that Xiaomi passed on the dual-camera trend. Nevertheless, these cameras pack a punch in them. The rear 12MP f/2.0 shooter is astonishing for any condition. It captures beautiful photos with little noise and great color saturation. The 4-axis optical image stabilization will make all of your pictures and videos perfectly stable. The front camera is also decent for all of you selfie lovers, with the only downside being the placement. It could make your pictures look odd, unless you hold it up high enough.

The Mi Mix 2 is running on Android 7.1.1 with MIUI 8 on top of it. It will be updated to Android Oreo in the following weeks, knowing that MIUI 9 is already available for few other devices. It can feel overwhelming at first, but it is highly customizable, and you won’t have any problems after spending few minutes with it.

Availability and pricing

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is available for purchase now, priced at €500. Only Spain users will be able to buy it from the site, as Xiaomi just started selling their products there. For the rest of us, importing it from sites like Gearbest and Aliexpress is the only choice.
