Pocophone F1 released!

#

You already know that Xioami is one of the most successful smartphone companies around the world. They have a wide offer of different smartphones for every budget. That brought them huge popularity across the Asian, and now European market. But, they don’t want to stop there. The Pocophone F1 is the company’s next venture into the smartphone world. Marketed as a separate sub-brand of Xiaomi, Poco’s aim will be smartphones with powerful internals, but low price. That is how the Pocophone F1 was born – let’s take a closer look at it!

Design

Starting with the design, the Pocophone F1 is definitely not going to impress you that much. It looks pretty similar to most budget smartphones. That is mostly caused from the polycarbonate back. Not that it’s flimsy or cheaply made, quite the opposite – it’s sturdy and mimics metal quite well. As for the colors, there are three options – Graphite Black, Rosso Red and Steel Blue. There is also a special “Armored Edition” with Kevlar fabric on the back, that gives it a bit of a carbon fiber look.

Rotating to the front, the F1 features a 5.99” IPS LCD display. It’s capped at 1080 x 2246 resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The device also features a notch, and it’s quite wide. However, it doesn’t hide the bezels that much, and they’re quite noticeable, even for a tall display. Nevertheless, it shouldn’t bother many of you that much.

Features

The true excitement lies inside the Pocophone F1. And starting with the chipset, the device features the Snapdragon 845 processor. It’s one of the fastest chipsets available for smartphones right now. Assisted by the Adreno 630 GPU, the combo executes tasks swiftly and without any problems. Continuing on, the F1 comes in three different RAM/storage options. For the RAM, you have the option of either 6 or 8GB. The 6GB version is only available with 64GB of internal storage. Furthermore, you can upgrade with 128 or 256GB. Rounding up the internals, the F1 features a 4000mAh battery, which should easily last you through a day and a half of use.

Moving on to the cameras, the Pocophone F1 features a dual combo on the back, with a single shooter on the front. The rear setup is consisted of a primary 12MP shooter with f/1.9 aperture and a secondary 5MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture. The secondary shooter is used for depth information, enabling different features – including Portrait mode. Pictures are great, with excellent color saturation and depth of field. Furthermore, the 20MP shooter on the front is excellent for all of your social media selfies. For video, the device can shoot at 2160p with 30fps, and can go down up to 1080p with 240fps.

Finishing with the software, the F1 features Android Oreo 8.1, with Xiaomi’s own MIUI 9.6 skin. It packs in a lot of new features that are not present in other Xiaomi devices, plus a new launcher.

Pricing and availability

The Pocophone F1 is available in more than 30 different countries across the world. Prices start at 315 euros for the base 6/64GB model.
