Android 2.2 Froyo for Telus Samsung Fascinate Available Now

For all you Canadian Samsung Fascinate smartphone owners on the Telus network who have patiently been waiting for the Android 2.2 Froyo update to drop, you just might like to know that particular update which was expected early 2011 is available right now.

According to an article over on Mobile Syrup by Ian Hardy, old Sammy after saying the Android 2.2 Froyo update “is currently being tested and we are working on a release for later in December 2010,” have apparently got their collective fingers out and made the update available as of now.

The only down side I can see is that Telus Samsung fascinate owners in Canada have to grab the Android 2.2 Froyo update by way of Samsung Keis, which for some across the globe has been quite a pain.

As you probably already know, the Android 2.2 Froyo update will deliver to the Samsung Fascinate on the Telus network, faster performance, new security features, enhanced exchange integration and of course Adobe Flash Player 10.1.

So all you have to do now is hope all goes well with downloading the update from Keis, and of course if you do experience any problems feel free to voice your annoyance in our comments area below.

SUCCESS! after many failures on Win7 X64….. OK so for a lot of win7 x64 users with a Telus (or possibly other carriers as well) who are applying the new froyo 2.2 update to their samsung galaxy s fascinate phones, there is a trick to make this work (at least I had to be a little tricky after it failed 5+ times).

You of course have to use samsung kies ( http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/detail/supportP… go to downloads tab ) to do the upgrade (I ran it as administrator and in task manager i set the cpu affinity for kies.exe to only one cpu as this had worked for me jailbreaking an iphone recently. I'm not sure if this is necessary but it certainly wont hurt). Your battery must be almost full or full.

After you've started the upgrade, the firmware will download and then begin to install and the phone wiill start to go into upgrade/recovery mode, have your device manager open at this point, right click on the new devices that show up and update their driver to the samsung galaxy s x64 drivers that are available online ( http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php… ) (yes you have to update drivers to a device on which you are currently upgrading the firmware, i know it sounds scary but it doesn't actually start to write the firmware at all until the drivers are both installed. one pops up, you install it, then another comes up, do the same thing and then the upgrade proceeds)
