AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS update resumes no OTA

It seems that the upgrading of a lot of Android hardware to the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system hasn’t exactly ran smoothly since it was first released late last year, as many handsets that were once flagship devices for various manufacturers are still waiting to be upgraded, but today we can tell you that the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS update resumes with no OTA.

Last week we reported that the new operating system had started to arrive on AT&T’s version of the Samsung Galaxy S2, but after only a short time it was pulled, but today as the Android Police are reporting in an article the Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade is now available for users of the handset.

The version of the new operating system is Android 4.0.3 and was briefly available last week via the Samsung Kies update software, but the manufacturer took down the file and said it was only a “test”. Users from the XDA forum have reported successfully installing the update via Kies and on stock devices, but it is looking like the update will not be available via an over the air update.

It will instead be restricted to Samsung’s PC software so users will have to connect their handset to their computer via a cable to update it. The version now available appears to be identical to the software that was released last week, and the new operating system should bring some nice user interface improvements, various bug fixes, and some redesigned apps.

Samsung’s TouchWiz Android overlay will of course still be available but the update comes as Google are expected to announce Android 4.1 Jelly Bean this week, and the possibility of a release on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Let us know via our comments section if your Galaxy S2 has been updated to Android ICS yet.

I have had complete success with the update and i have no issues as of yet i was watching a video and downloading a show while updating using Samsung Kies software and it took 15 minutes to install. My only gripe is what happened to face unlock guess they took that out too well atleast my calls and network signal is better than it ever was before the update i guess beggars cant be choosers.

Updated on Sunday, 6/25. At 83% the process froze. After waiting 30 minutes I unplugged and replugged in the USB cable and was directed how to do a recovery. The recovery worked fine and now ICS is running smoothly. I paired my Bluetooth (per directions) and recreated my Gmail account to eliminate a startup error message and now the phone is completely functional.

    Current Phone: AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 sgh-i777
    Current OS: ICS 4.0.3

I installed ICS 4.0.3 on my phone on Monday, June 25, 2012. I have to admit that this OS is is buggy and glitchy. When I scroll my home screens left and right or my browser up and down, it glitches as it moves. When I click on an icon like my camera, it takes a few seconds to load. When I exit out of my camera, I see a blank home screen and then it takes a few seconds for the icons to load. ICS is supposed to be smoother and faster. I hope AT&T will fix these bugs.

Does anyone know about the glitch in the software that makes the phone constantly connected to the web and draining the battery?  Will this new software fix that issue?

I updated last night after midnight. It took longer than I expected but I had no issues. I will play with it this afternoon to check out the new features.

1 month ago i’ve updated my S2 to ICS 4.0.3 and it works very well, no troubles at all. I did this update with OTA and causes no problems at all.

I updated m Galaxy as soon as I got the notification last week.  ICS has some issues (Samsung Desk and Car Home no longer work, for instance), but all in all, I would say it’s quite a facelift.  Hopefully some of the bugs will be ironed out real soon.

Had to reflash back to gingerbread after a week of ics absolutely hammering my battery life so badly that the phone was heating up , think I will give it a miss as v happy with rooted gingerbread with all the boat ware removed and battery lasts a respectable time.
