Everyone is chatting about the Palm Pre so much and in fact it has done my head in, I am an Apple iPhone 3G user and must say is the best smartphone ever to hit the market.
I would never leave the iPhone behind unless something special came along and im afraid the pre just dont do it for me.
The iPhone 3.0 will be an amazing phone on the hardware and software front.

I have had an engineering version of the pre in my hand.
It does what the press is claiming.
Check out Palm’s video presentation - it is real.
I can’t wait for mine.
Have had Treo phones for years and have used the I phone which is a great piece of equipment also.
But the Pre is beyond.
It has raised the bar.
It is the something special.

I bought my pre yesterday at Best Buy which apparently has an exclusive contract with Sprint. I am extremely unhappy with a number of issues. First, there is NO MANUAL included with the phone. It’s not particularly intuitive to use either. Second, BEST BUY COULD NOT TRANSFER MY CONTACTS. They told me they don’t have the software patch needed and suggested that I go to the Sprint store. Sprint reps were as completely USELESS as usual. They refused to transfer contacts unless I paid them an additional fee to do so. So much for the ads touting service at their stores. Third, you can only set up ONLY ONE RINGTONE FOR CALLS, TEXTS, ETC. This is idiotic in what is supposed to be a top of the line phone. Fourth, customer service at Palm’s help line was a long wait and you needed to call from another phone. Well, idiots, you just disconnected my functioning phone to connect this one I can’t use. Let’s see if I can’t find a pay phone. Pfft. Fifth, there’s NO ALARM CLOCK. You have to do an update for this. Sixth, it DOESN’T SEE MY WIRELESS NETWORK. No idea how to fix this one and it’s obvious I’m NOT GOING TO GET ANY HELP figuring it out. Seventh, you CAN’T GET RID OF PRELOADED APPS YOU DON’T WANT. I’m stuck with ESPN and NASCAR apps clogging up my screen space.
There are about 10 apps total. They are frightening in the amount of data you have to agree to let them collect about you–your ip address, websearches, comments, location, email, etc. etc. etc. THE APPs AREN’T PRICED. I assume they are free but I’m going to be might PO’d if they charge me for something when I couldn’t for the life of me find a price after much diligent searching.
This could be a good phone. The screen is bright. But, as usual, Sprint, Best Buy and Palm all gave a big middle finger to their customers.
I hear Apple’s service is pretty good. I’ve still got 30 days to switch….

I had purchased the Palm Pre on it’s initial launch day. Had the phone all of three hours, pressed the center button and the screen cracked all the way up the entire screen. Nine (9) days later and I still don’t have a new phone. I paid for upgraded service and a very expensive phone now Sprint want’s to pay an extra $100 to replace the defective one. Claiming it was “Physical Damage”. I have read many other reviews claiming the same problem without physically abusing the phone in ANY manner. Poor engineering, Design flaw or otherwise, Sprints
customer service Ranks a big ZERO. I have been a loyal customer for over ten years with a family plan and four phones and this is how I’m treated. Shame on Sprint and Shame on Dan the CEO with a big salary for abusing his customers in the name of $$$$. Done with Sprint forever.

Dr.K is an idiot. You never go to best buy to get a new phone, the sprint employees should have charged you double for being such a dumba$$. Stop crying or shoot yourself and end it. No one cares about anything you have to say. Overall the pre is the second best phone out there by far. The iPhone is the best. Maybe you should get an iPhone Dr K but you would probably find something else to bitch about that too.

For the record, my comments weren\’t meant for 12 year olds or fanboys. They were meant for people who are considering purchasing the phone and and who may want to know some of the drawbacks. I also vaguely hope that Palm\’s marketing people pay attention to web chatter and will notice and correct some of the consumer-identified problems with the phone. Some people want more in a review than comments like \”it has raised the bar\” or \”it\’s the second best phone in the whole wide world.\”
For the record, my Palm died entirely after about 5 weeks of use.
Palm\’s got some problems with this one.
