HTC Desire Android 2.2 Froyo Update Release Date

At last some official news about the HTC Desire Android 2.2 Froyo update and its release date, we are not exactly sure what date but we do know it is this weekend.

Thanks to Engadget they have just published some very interesting details of what to expect, the official news says that HTC will roll out its Android 2.2 aka Froyo software update to unlocked European HTC Desire handsets.

The new Android 2.2 update will feature a new 720p video mode and will also give you iTunes sync for your music, other features will include the App Share widget, smart Caller ID feature and much more like improved multi-language keyboard.

If you own the HTC Desire you will receive notification of the over-the-air (OTA) update when it is available to download, this update will not delete your stuff that is on the phone already. It is recommended that you use Wi-Fi to download, as you do not want to be charged for data usage.

As soon as you have downloaded and had a little play around please do let us now how the install went and what you like or dislike about the update.

Yes upgraded to Froyo an hour ago. Went smoothly. Promising so far it being much more responsive than Eclair. But I still cannot move Apps to the SD card which is very annoying as the current phone memory is woefully inadequate for their storage & use.
Can anyone tell me what the score is? Will it be down to the App developers to upgrade their Apps to allow storage & use on the SD card?

@ kestrel, i have installed update too and found that i can only move some apps to the sd card. to do this you go settings- applications- manage applications. then just go through then seeing what ones can be moved to the sd card. dose anyone no what the enhanced caller id is??

I got the update today at 14:30…Now haven't got mobile internet and when connected on wi-fi android browser is not responding to touch only to optical track ball…I'm really upset!!

I bought mine from phones4u and they brought out the phone, then i chose my network. So would it be unlocked/unbranded. There dosn't seem to be any branding (splash screens etc) on the handset. Is there a particular software number that means its unlocked?

My update went smooth although i noticed one bug…

In Marketplace – apps previously downloaded don't show in Downloads, however if you go into the app market and find an app installed that needs updating – update it and everything comes back.

    Strange.

I did this and its all good now.

Seed of Froyo is amazing and the led flash is very very cool!

I have an HTC Desire which was purchased unlocked.
When I manually check for a System Software Update I am told there are no updates available for my phone.
I read a forum posting (by chance) which suggested that the upgrade was to be staggered and not all unlocked HTC Desire phones would have access to the upgrade at the same time!!
Is there any chance of finding out exactly when I am likely to have access to the upgrade?

Why not have an online utility informing users when they are likely to have access to the 2.2 upgrade??
That would make too much sense wouldn't it…
Instead of keeping us deprived ones in the dark.

I had been checking the software update everyday with out success. I just happened to mention it when I got to work tonight and tried it. Hooray my T-mobile desire must be unlocked as it allowed me to download and update to 2.2. Worth trying the update every couple of hours. You never know

HI Mark, Looking back at some old info on Froyo 2.2. I am today having the exact same problem as you had a while ago.

I just purchased a second hand (very good condition) HTC desire. The software installed is 2.1 / 1 When I check for updates i get a message saying you no software updates are available?

How did you get on? Can you offer any advice?

      Thanks.

2.2 on unlocked Desire with T-Mobile sim. Works perfect, so much better. Full FLASH, so can watch everything on the net (free footie). Apps need to be designed by the developer to go on to the SD card. Wifi hot spot works fine, any body having problems, the problem is not with FROYO, this thing has been checked out for months now. Its either a phone issue or you may need to tweak some settings. Stop moaning, its free, what do you get free from Apple? Just get on with it ;~)

HI i have a HTC desire from 3, paid the for the unlock and tested with O2 sim card

Can i get the 2.2 update with my 3 sim or do i need to change the sim to get the update, how does the OTA system know my phone is unlocked?

Any ideas – Id like to get 2.2

I got a message to say to update my HTC to 2.2 – which I did over WIFI as the message advised – all went through fine, apart from WIFI doesn't work – anyone else had this problems – any ideas how to fix – i've read various posts about goldcards, no idea what that is, but want a proper fix, help please
