iPhone LCD Toshiba Plant, Apple NOT Investing

Yesterday we reported on the new plant that Toshiba is building in Japan to produce LCD displays for the Apple iPhone, you can refresh your memory on that article by hitting up (here); in said article it was stated that Apple would be investing in the Toshiba plant, but apparently that is not so.

According to an article over on 9to5 Mac by Mark Gurman, Digitimes says that Toshiba has denied the rumour that Apple will invest in the new factory, so apparently everyone has got it wrong and Toshiba is going it alone.

However according to the Digitimes article, “Panel makers indicated that the rumours could make sense because of limited capacity for LTPS in the market, as well as the possibility to develop AMOLED solutions by leveraging the LTPS production line.”

Apparently Toshiba Mobile Display’s plant will produce small to medium LTPS panels and the latest iPhone panel uses an IPS panel which is produced using an LTPS technique with FFS technology and is apparently “more energy-saving compared to other high-end panels.”
