Since the invention of the mobile application, mobile apps have certainly become big business in the mobile space with virtually all smartphones now using apps, and today we have a bit of info on mobile app downloads for your consumption.

According to an article over on Intomobile by Stefan Constantinescu and by way of Moco News, the number crunchers over at IDC say that during 2010, 10.9 billion mobile apps were downloaded globally and predict that that amount will leap to a staggering 76.9 billion by 2014.

They also say that the mobile app market was worth in the region of a whopping $35 billion during the period, and obviously will rise in leaps and bounds worth wise in the coming years, although Constantinescu says that he’s somewhat sceptic and doesn’t think it will happen as users don’t bother downloading apps after the first week or two.

However, according to the vice president of mobile and wireless research at IDC, Scott Ellison, has said… “Mobile app developers will ‘appify’ just about every interaction you can think of in your physical and digital worlds. The extension of mobile apps to every aspect of our personal and business lives will be one of the hallmarks of the new decade with enormous opportunities for virtually every business sector.”

Having said that, maybe Constantinescu is somewhat correct as I for one don’t download that many apps since I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S, and I know others who went “app crazy” when they brought the iPhone, but don’t download that many anymore.
