Nexus 4 LTE is irrelevant and exaggerated

We do not get all the fuss about the lack of LTE on the Nexus 4, ok so the teardown revealed a Qualcomm WTR1605L 7-Band 4G LTE chip but it is not that straight-forward to get 4G LTE up and running smoothly without a few tweaks, to be honest we think the Nexus 4 LTE saga is irrelevant and exaggerated especially in the UK, but can this be said the hose in USA or Canada?

We have added a few YouTube videos below of 4G LTE running on the Nexus 4, but it seems there is no easy persuasion when tweaking because the handset lacks a signal amplifier and filter but yet we know it can handle the high-speed connection. The Nexus 4 can be forced for it to run on 4G LTE but it uses LTE band 4 running at 1700MHz and 2100MHz, and we all know that these bands are used by Rogers and Telus in Canada and in the US AT&T.

Google opted out of providing LTE support as standard and to be honest it makes sense really because it would be very hard to spread this internationally, so behold the tweak shown in the video clips below.

There is no need for us to bang on about how the tweak works because it is worth watching the videos, but to keep it brief one of the videos below clearly shows the Canadian demonstrator dialing “*#*#4636#*” to access the test menu, it also shows the preferred network type option as well as the ability to select either LTE on its own or a choice of GSM and CDMA, please watch the videos below for more information on this tweak.

LTE needs licensing and approvals we know that and not many smartphone consumers can use it, in the UK LTE is available via EE 4G but then that is great if you have a lot of money to spend, not what you call cheap. One of our readers here on Phones Review did post a comment saying “Going back to those in the States, if you are not happy that the Nexus 4 does not have LTE without making a few little tweaks then how about not buying the Nexus 4, that way you will not be disappointed.” Do you agree?

In the UK many customers have problems getting 3G let alone 4G network, the Nexus 4 is a stunning smartphone with great specs especially considering how little the handset costs, not having LTE is not so much of a problem in our eyes.

Please let us know what you think about the Nexus 4 and the LTE saga?
