Nokia Belle up top, Symbian in garbage can

As Nokia has ditched the Symbian platform perhaps it’s fitting that they have changed the name of their newest OS, Symbian Belle to Nokia Belle and finally send Symbian into the garbage can. Known hence forth as Nokia Belle the user interface will soon become available to download to several existing Nokia handsets as well as start shipping pre-installed on numerous handsets already on the market.

According to the guys over at Nokia Conversations, new advanced models of the Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7 and Nokia N8 are on their way to stores packing Nokia Belle and will surface initially in China followed be the rest of the globe.

Thus if you own a Nokia N8, E7, E6, X7, C6-01, C7 or Nokia Oro, the wait to play with Nokia Bell will soon be over, because Nokia will release Nokia Belle update for download by existing customers starting in February 2012.

With Nokia Belle comes extra home screens, doubling the quantity from three to six, whilst home screen widgets have been improved and are now more functional with Nokia Belle, whilst some such as the email widget delivers extra info to make reading emails simpler.

There’s also an improved status bar, new modern navigation bar, better informative lock screen, and of course more apps including a suite of business apps from Microsoft.

So there you have it, if you are waiting to leave Symbian behind and grab the new Nokia Belle operating system for your Nokia smartphone you should be able to do so come February.
