PlayStation Mobile app for Android now available for various devices

Mobile gaming has been taken to a whole new level in recent years with the advancement in smartphone technology. Bigger screens coupled with bigger memory and more powerful processors has meant gamers have more ways to get their gaming fix while on the go, and now we can tell you that the PlayStation Mobile app for Android is available for a number of devices on the platform.

Sony has long had dedicated gaming consoles available to consumers, and earlier this year released the PlayStation Vita to the masses, and now according to Pocket Now the company is looking to do something different with the launch of the PlayStation Mobile application for Android users.

The idea behind this new venture for the company is to offer consumers a cross platform mobile gaming service, which allows users to purchase a title once via the PlayStation Store, and then play the game on certain Android hardware as well as the PlayStation Vita.

This is similar to what users can do with Android apps purchased on the Google Play Store, which then can be played on any device that shares the same Google account. The difference with this new service from Sony is that it will be linked with users PlayStation Network ID.

Currently Sony’s new offering is only available in Australia, US, UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Japan, but the company has promised that more countries will be added in the future. At launch the number of titles only sits at twenty with the likes of Beats Slider, Everybody’s Arcade, Super Crate Box, Wipe!, Hungary Giraffe, and Samurai Beatdown included.

More importantly the service is not limited to only Sony products as the likes of the HTC One x, One s, One V, and One X+ are compatible with PlayStation Mobile. Sony products that are compatible include the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Xperia Arc, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Arco, Xperia Arco HD, Sony Tablet P, Tablet S, Xperia S, Xperia Ion, Xperia Tablet S, Xperia T, Xperia V, and the PlayStation Vita.
