It has been a long while since we covered the Galaxy A7 series, but it appears as if a new model is gearing up to launch. The Samsung Galaxy A7 for 2017 has passed through benchmark listings, and we’ve got the scoop on its specs.

The original Samsung Galaxy A7 was in the phablet class and had respectable specifications. It was also released back in February of last year, so things have changed quite a bit on the smartphone scene since then. That means the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 should receive a large upgrade under the hood, and according to a GFXBench listing, that will be the case.

A device carrying the model number SM-A720x has shown up on GFXBench. Sometimes we have to guess what that model number entails, but not this time as it clearly says Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 right next to it. The display appears to be the same at 5.5-inches with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, but some things under the hood have changed.

The Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 is listed with an octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz, but the RAM is moving up to 3GB from the previous 2GB found in the old model. Storage capacity will double up to 32GB and there are improvements in the camera department as well. The old model had a 13MP/5MP sensor setup, but the new one has a 16MP rear camera… and a 16MP front-facing snapper. That’s quite the improvement.

There are no other specs to mention for the Samsung Galaxy A7 listing on GFXBench of note, but a fingerprint scanner, 4G LTE, and a microSD card slot should all be locks along with Android 7.0 Nougat if it rolls out next year. At this time, there has been no word on the new Samsung Galaxy A7 release date, but we will keep you informed as we learn more.
