Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 Froyo Update Drops November
For those who are still awaiting the arrival of the Android 2.2 Froyo update for their Samsung Galaxy S, Sammy has now put out some news on when you are likely to see the Android 2.2 Froyo update finally arrive in the UK and all other operators.
According to an article over on the Boy Genius Report by Andrew Munchbach, Samsung Mobile UK has announced via their Twitter account that UK owners of the Samsung Galaxy S can expect to see Android 2.2 Froyo land early November.
Sammy further stated in the same Twitter announcement that the Android 2.2 Froyo update will be pushed out to all other operator versions “by the end of November.”
Now if only Samsung would push out the Android 2.2 Froyo update over the air rather than make owner attempt to grab the update via Samsung Kies then all would be fine, but as it appears that several Samsung Galaxy S owners are experiencing problems with Kies recognising the Galaxy S it probably means more hardship to actually get Android 2.2 Froyo.

Samsung Kies does not work with Mac, but worse still it does not work with Windows via Bootcamp or by Vertual box. In fact Kies is a waste of space, the software writter made no attempt tyo allow users to disassociate the in built connection with email and calender programs from Microsoft. The whole point of getting a phone based on open protocol systems is that users like myself are not using Microsoft for emails and calenders in fact for vertually everything.
Comon Samsung, pull you fingers out and give us a means over the internet on the phone itself to update the operating system and to link with or (Mac) computers to back the device up in case we loose it. If you want to know what is needed just look at the IPhone although, we would rather not have another ITunes thank you very much.

It’s a shame that US carrier Galaxy S owners are left WAY behind everyone else! God knows when we will get our 2.2 update! As for Samsung KIES, it’s real finicky on what you use as a home screen launcher. My personal favorite is LauncherPro, but if I had LauncherPro enabled while trying to connect to KIES, it wouldn’t happen. You’ll have to set the stock home launder ‘TouchWiz’ to default, and turn off USB Debugging for it to properly connect. Many folks don’t know this.
Anyway, I want my Froyo for my Vibrant!!!
i had problems with the galaxy s and kies. however all i did was switch on the auto sync under accounts and it did the job.
The Galaxy S should come with a flash alongwith its camera. The non-availability of the flash is the only reason why I have not yet purchased this mobile, hoping to buy it in the upgraded version. Any idea on when that will come ?
Kies does not work – period – Ive tries it in Windows Xp, Windows XP 64 Pro and after suggestions from Samsung support Windows 7.
Anyone having problems with connecting to kies, make sure you switch your home page back to the default (android/orange etc.) I was using launcher pro and it wouldnt let me connect, but changing back to the default worked.
The Kie (excuse the pun) i have found is to take the battery out of the phone (while it is on) and remove any SD along with the SIM card. Turn the phone back on and then plug in the cable and select 'Samsung KIES'.
This works everytime with my Windows-7 64-bit.
Dont bother trying to get bluetooth sync working, it wont! Havent ever flashed the ROM with this procedure tho. The last time i updated was ECLAIR update 1, it killed the phone, performance was horrific, my provider said id voided the warrenty (Orange, so beware) and in the end i had to take it to a service centre!
Ooooh and they also dont like non-dedicated USB ports (i.e a hub or shared bus) :-/
All in all i am disappointed and eagerly awaiting HTC's Desire HD even though it will have 4.5GB less internal memory.

My Kies works perfectly on Windows XP! Also, if you want a REALLY simple back up for your phone, download a free App called LOOKOUT. It's wicked ;0-)
Kies works fine for me,
should connect with phone in samsung kies mode
if it doesnt, try turning the phone off and on again then try again.
failing this do the kies driver recovery / reinstall option , then turn off the phone and turn it back on again.
Kies works fine for me on Windows 7 64 Bit – I just had to install as Admin and install a quick update. No problems since then. Theres a new Kies update out today; I wonder if its for the Froyo Update…
