Tegra 3 powered Sony Xperia Tablet S revealed

While a lot of the headlines coming from the IFA event in Berlin have concerned the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, many other manufactures are showcasing new hardware to tempt consumers to part with their hard earned cash, and Sony has revealed its new Nvidia Tegra 3 powered Xperia S Tablet.

As the Gadget Helpline are reporting there has been a number of leaked images and other information about the upcoming device for a number of months now, and the company has now confirmed most of these rumours.

The new tablet PC will come running the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and will feature a 9.4-inch touchscreen display with a 1280 x 800 resolution. Other features include an eight megapixel shooter on the back, while around the front is a one megapixel unit.

Connectivity comes in the form of a USB output, Bluetooth 3.0, and HDMI via a dongle. There are 16, 32, and 64GB options for on board storage with all models featuring the quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. Battery life is promised to provide up to ten hours of Internet browsing or twelve hours of video playback.

The Sony Xperia Tablet S also features a compass, GPS, accelerometer, gyro, and an ambient light sensor. There is the new feature of an infrared port that will allow users to control their whole entertainment system via the tablet.

Sony has revealed that the Xperia Tablet S will be releasing in the US on September 7th, while the UK will also be getting the device at some point that month. Pricing for the device starts at $399 for the 16GB version going up to $599 for the 64GB model, but the company has yet to reveal any details regarding pricing for the UK and European regions.
