Verizon Sony Xperia Play Android 2.3.4 update details

For those Android faithful over in the good old US of A that own the Sony Xperia Play smartphone, formerly known as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, it appears there is a new software update on the horizon for your device if you are on Verizon that hasn’t been released just yet, but should be heading your way quite soon.

According to the guys over at Droid-life they are almost certain that this update for the Sony Xperia Play on the Verizon network is a new Android Ice Cream Sandwich update, and will see the device move to Android 2.3.4, and is said to deliver camera improvements such as 720p recording, screenshot capabilities, VZ Navigator and more.

Apparently the size of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update is 66.73MB, and will take roughly 20 to 40 minutes to download depending on network condition, whilst installation can take up to 10 to 20 minutes, and whilst updating the user will not be able to make or receive calls, including emergency calls.

The Android 2.3.4 update will arrive over the air, either by OTA server initiated, or by OTA user initiated, with the server initiated update downloading automatically, and once downloaded tap ‘Apply Update’, and your device will power off and back on 4 times before showing the install complete screen, once done simply tap ‘OK.’

The user initiated OTA update is done in the usual manner whereby the user from the home screen taps Menu> Settings> Software Update> Update Now> Check for Updates, and again once the update has downloaded tap Apply Update.

So there you have it, as mentioned above, it isn’t clear exactly when the Android 2.3.4 update will be released to the Sony Xperia Play, so keep your eyes open over the next few days, and if you do grab the update feel free to let us know how it all goes.
