T-Mobile G1 open source Android on 2 year at $179.00

The T-Mobile G1 is now official and will start shipping in the United States as of October 22nd on a 2 year contract for $179.00 US, while the UK follows in November and then across T-Mobile’s European network Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and the Netherlands in Q1 09.

The G1 sports a 3.2 inch touch-screen, quad-band GSM/EDGE, dual-band UMTS support, built-in accelerometer, Wi-Fi and GPS, but lacks Bluetooth support.

But its not the hardware everyone’s interested in, it’s the Android software that offers Gmail with push support, Amazon MP3 store, Google Talk, and Google Maps Street View.

At present the G1 lacks MS Exchange support, however doors are opened to third-party developers on this supposedly true open source mobile phone.
