3G license auctions draft approved by Thailand NTC

The National Telecommunications Commission of Thailand has now approved a draft for 3G license auctions and if approved it is expected the auctions will begin by the end of 2009 with a formal launch of the winning network in mid 2010, and is also looking at auctioning a series of WiMAX licenses.

According to cellular-news, public consultation on the proposal is planned to be held at the end of September, and said proposal should switch the regulatory regime from percentage revenues to fixed fee and lower spectrum costs.

Present operators are currently running trials of 3G networks over their GSM radio spectrum and CAT Telecom, a CDMA operator is looking for an overseas investor to help with 3G roll out plans.
