Does Kik Messenger Rival RIM BlackBerry? Your Views

Seems like RIM does not like Kik Messenger a great deal so much so that Research In Motion has filed a patent infringement suit against them.

The Toronto startup and its cross-platform instant messaging (IM) service is apparently rivaling RIM’s BlackBerry Messenger service product and this is why RIM has acted, the KIK app was removed from RIM’s App World on November 12, which was a breach of contractual obligations.

Kik is very similar to that of RIM’s Messenger and is a service that allows smartphone users to see messages that have been sent, delivered and read, plus when it is being replied to.

The Kik service was very popular when it re-launch in October grabbing a staggering 2.5 million users with 1-million of them being BlackBerry users, the app can still be downloaded on Apple and Google Android system according to Reuters India.

Do you think RIM is right to file the patent infringement suit against them?
