iPhone 4S on AT&T unlocking without jailbreak

Hmm well now, it appears that if you are an owner of an AT&T iPhone 4S and wish to have your iOS smartphone unlocked there is a way of doing so whereby you don’t have to go through the hassle of jailbreaking your iPhone and is apparently accomplished due to a bug in iOS 5.

According to an article over on Ubergizmo, a guy has taken advantage of an iOS 5 bug to tinker around and has discovered how to unlock an iPhone on the AT&T network; however this method requires the user to have in their possession a T-Mobile micro SIM along with your AT&T SIM.

Apparently Danielscaleb.com has posted the how to achieve unlock on your AT&T iPhone 4S to their website, and this is how it goes…

Begin with your active SIM card in your iPhone 4S, make a call and then drop said call, next put the iOS smartphone into Airplane mode, remove the AT&T SIM, and replace with the T-Mobile micro SIM, then turn off Airplane mode and allow the device to search for a network with WiFi turned off.

The Apple activation screen will show, so you let it sit, and if you are using the T-Mobile card you will see the “Edge E” popup in the status bar. Wait roughly 20-seconds and switch off the handset then turn in back on and again you are presented with the activation screen. With WiFi turned off, tap “Use Cellular Connection,” remove the SIM and then put it back in and your iPhone 4S should now be unlocked.

Apparently this method only works on a GSM iPhone 4S and not a CDMA version, and the last removal and replace of the SIM card can take about 20 goes to get it to work.

So there you have it, how to unlock your iPhone 4S on AT&T without requiring a jailbreak, so we’d love to hear from any of our readers out there that try this method of unlocking out on their own iPhone 4S so feel free to let us know how you get on.
