CyanogenMod 9 (CM9) and Onskreen’s Cornerstone integration loving

There’s some interesting news for Android enthusiasts today as it seems that Onskreen’s Cornerstone feature could be integrated on CyanogenMod 9, with the potential of bringing true desktop-like multitasking to Android tablets. We’ve taken a look and think that many Android users will really love the sound of this latest possibility.

The software would give users the capability of having multiple applications running simultaneously on one screen on a tablet and although it’s not yet confirmed that it will be released to the public it certainly looks promising. CyanogenMod, who provide customized aftermarket firmware, posted about this on Google+ here and stressed that it’s early days and at present is experimental but will probably be included in CM9. They won’t go ahead with the integration until it has been thoroughly tested which sounds sensible, but say that although it’s so far unpolished the concept is great.

However, for now you can at last take a look at a video below this story. Many people seem very excited about this latest development and on the CyanogenMod’s Google+ page there’s a huge amount of positivity about how it looks. The Cornerstone app is a new hack and will save users having to swap from one app to another, basically splitting up the tablet’s ‘desktop’ to three separate windows, one large and two smaller. It could make your tablet experience much more akin to a traditional desktop OS, such as Windows or OS X.

You can find out much more about Cornerstone Android tablet multi-tasking on the Onskreen site here but from the overwhelmingly encouraging comments made on Google+ we reckon the sooner this is implemented in cm9 the better and that it would be hugely popular.

We’re interested to hear what you think though. Why not take a look at the video below and let us know if this is what you’ve been waiting for, for your Android tablet? What other developments would you like to see next?
