Daring thieves with Cerberus for Android

As more of us now own expensive and desirable smartphones it opens us up to the criminal fraternity who would like to get their hands on them. Most users will have either signed up to a 24 month contract, or laid out large sums of cash to become the owner of the latest smartphone. Now for those who own an Android device the Cerberus application will help you get back your lost or stolen handset.

The Cerberus application offers users complete anti-theft protection to help them recover your lost or stolen Android cell phone. Currently the application is being offered for a free one week trial with the option of buying a lifetime license for only €2.99 from within the application itself.

There are no monthly or annual fees to pay afterwards, and what is really clever is the license is linked to users Cerberus account that lets users to cover up to five devices under one license. The application works in three ways with remote control via the official www.cerberusapp.com website, remote control by text messages, and the SIM Checker will provide automatic alerts if someone uses your handset with an unrecognized SIM card.

The remote control function allows users to locate and track the device, wipe the internal memory and SD card, trigger a loud alarm even when the handset is in silent mode, lock the handset, record audio from the microphone, and much more.

Cerberus can be hidden from the list of applications stored on the device, and if running Android Gingerbread or later allows for the GPS to be switched on automatically once you try and locate it. There is no need to have a working Internet connection as the remote control is used via SMS messages.

Using the SIM Checker users can find out the new number to send texts to if the SIM card has been changed, and texts sent and received will not appear in the Messages application. It is also promised the application will not drain the battery, as it is only activated if there is a remote control request.
