Pod2g updates on release of iOS 5.1 (.x) untethered jailbreak

We’ve been following all the developments of the exploits of well-known developer and hacker pod2g and his attempts to bring an iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak. Today we thought we’d bring you the latest update on the progress of the iOS 5.1.x jailbreak, which is becoming closer every day and should be available within the next two weeks.

Previously we learned that pod2g had managed an untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1 and then a few days ago we told how he had now managed an untethered jailbreak on the new iPad running iOS 5.1. Later we then heard that the untethered jailbreak had also been successfully performed on iOS 5.1.1 as well. This of course has made many potential jailbreakers hopeful of a public release of the jailbreak real soon.

Today pod2g has posted on his blog and answered some questions about the iOS 5.1.x untethered jailbreak and asked for patience from the many of you waiting for the release. In answer to those wanting a release as soon as possible, asking for an ETA and how much is done, pod2g states there’s still a way to go to achieve the state of the untethered jailbreak being “user friendly and well tested” for end users and says to expect a release “in a couple of weeks.”

Pod2g also asserts it will be compatible for any device running iOS 5.1.1 except ATV3, although that could change. It seems many have commented to the hacker querying why the untethered jailbreak is taking so long, especially now we know it has been demonstrated for the new iPad (iPad 3). To this the answer is because there are 16 devices that need working and testing on and that all takes time.

For reassurance at the end of his blog post pod2g says “Be patient, it’s gonna happen.” Great news then for the many of you waiting for this untethered jailbreak although we suspect there will still be some who are impatient. We’d like to hear your thoughts on this latest news about the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.x.

Are you just delighted that hackers such as pod2g carry out this work and pleased the public release will be available soon, or are you one of those people who wonder why it can’t be done quicker? Let us know with your comments.
