Sony reveals Android ICS 4.0 running Xperia Miro

The Android platform continues to see a number of new handsets being lined up for release, and today we have news of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich running Sony Xperia Miro that has been revealed.

Sony has been running a campaign on its Facebook page and as Digital Trends are reporting it has reached its conclusion, and announced the Xperia Miro. It begun on Monday when the company put up a countdown clock with a fast forward button. When it was clicked by users it took a few seconds off the time remaining, and once this reached zero a new Xperia handset was to be revealed.

After 25,941 people sped up the clock with the fast forward button the Xperia Miro appeared, but the handsets revealing has prompted some angry responses from some users that were expecting something more. The innovative unveiling of the handset has been met with people moaning that the device is not a top of the range smartphone.

The handset is slightly similar to the Xperia Sola, but falls under it in range and Sony have yet to reveal the full spec sheet for the handset. The Xperia Miro will feature a 3.5-inch touchscreen with a five megapixel camera that is capable of capturing video at 30fps, and it will come running the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

There is also a front facing camera for video calls, Sony’s xLoud audio technology, DLNA connectivity, and Sony are promising the device will feature a large battery unit that is primed for “longer usage”. It will come with a number of colour options that includes black, black and pink, white with gold, and white.

Sony has used Facebook to reveal the Xperia Miro as the social networking site has been integrated into Sony’s version of Android. Users will be able to customize the notification light to change colour for certain Facebook updates. Sony is describing the handset as an “Xperia with Facebook” phone, and it will be “easier and faster to like, comment and share” using the smartphone.

Expect more details to be announced about the handset shortly with full specifications and hopefully a release time frame. Do you like the look of the Sony Xperia Miro?
