Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean disappointment

Once Google first announced the Android Ice Cream operating system we experienced months of handsets owners waiting to receive the update, or even find out if their device would be updated in the first place. Today we have the news of some possible Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1 Jelly bean disappointment on the cards.

According to an article on The Christian Post some hardware limitations may prevent owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 from receiving the Jelly Bean update when it is available. As we reported before the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be getting the new operating system as Samsung engineers bumped the specs to future proof the handset, but its predecessor allegedly lacks components to allow Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smoothly and efficiently.

The Galaxy S2 screen resolution of 800 x 480 is believed to be too low for Jelly Bean and quad core processors are preferred for the software, and another thing that would cause problems for the handset is that it wouldn’t run as smoothly with the TouchWiz Android overlay running simultaneously with Jelly Bean.

This is a similar situation to what occurred last year with Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy S I9000, as the company announced the handset was not getting the upgrade because of hardware limitations, and incompatibility with other software on the handset. The smartphone manufacturer is expected to announce compatibility with Jelly Bean in due course, but currently the only devices defiantly getting it are the Galaxy Nexus, and the Galaxy S3.

This makes you think that Samsung and Google are trying to phase out older handsets to persuade consumers to upgrade to newer models, but this is likely not to go down to well considering many may have just got hold of handsets such as the Galaxy S2.

The handset is still a worthy device that still performs well and many owners may not have the desire to quickly go out and upgrade it for a newer model. Will you be disappointed if the Galaxy S2 doesn’t get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean?
