Galaxy Note ICS update for AT&T missing but others bricked

We have some news today for those of you on AT&T waiting for the Android 4.0 ICS update to be rolled out to you, as it seems that this could be the very last Galaxy Note that will receive it. However while we can understand frustration about the absent ICS update, spare a thought for Galaxy Note users in France whose devices have been bricked by the official Samsung ICS update there.

Usually when we report on delays of software updates to devices, people are understandably pretty annoyed and we’re sure many AT&T Galaxy Note owners are in this situation right now. The international version of the Galaxy Note received ICS back in May but AT&T and Samsung have both held back so far on naming a specific release date for the update on AT&T. Given the huge popularity of this device we would have thought that at least some information should have been handed out to owners to give an indication that ICS for the AT&T Galaxy Note hasn’t been forgotten.

Also it seems that in North America, Rogers is to release the Galaxy Note ICS update on July 21, according to a Gotta Be Mobile report, sourced from Mobile Syrup. This info came from a leaked document so is not confirmed but at least Rogers Galaxy Note owners now have something to go on rather than being completely in the dark. With still no ICS date for the Galaxy Note on AT&T it does look very much the case that AT&T owners of the device will be the last to receive the update.

It’s not all bad though as if AT&T and Samsung had already rolled out the ICS update to the Galaxy Note you may have a bricked, useless device by now. A report on Phone Arena, sourced from Gizmodo France, tells how the official Samsung ICS update for the Galaxy Note in France has left many owners with bricked devices. The update was launched only recently but has turned into a customer relations nightmare as a bug in the firmware file has bricked devices, leading to a huge outcry in the country. Samsung has now had to pull the update in France and is working to resolve the issue.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on the AT&T Galaxy Note ICS update. Would you gladly wait longer to avoid your phone being bricked with an official ICS update? Maybe you’re just fed up at still waiting for ICS and being given no official news? Let us know with your comments.
