Upcoming Sony vs HTC flagship Android phones initial clash

Although we don’t usually do comparisons involving smartphones with only initial details to go on, we noted that in the last few days we’ve heard of two upcoming absolutely top-end devices, from Sony and HTC. From what we’ve heard so far these will knock your socks off so we thought it would be interesting to look at these Sony vs HTC flagship Android phones in an initial clash.

Indeed the early details about these phones suggests that we could even forget about the Galaxy S3 and forthcoming iPhone 5 as it looks as though those devices could have some real competition. We’ll give you a rundown on what has been reported so far on the upcoming Sony and HTC smartphones but again must stress that so far this is based on leaks rather than anything official. However we hope it will give readers a first look at two of the exciting phones ahead for the fall and some idea of what to expect at least.

The first phone comes from Sony and is dubbed the Sony Xperia Mint LT30p, though of course that name could change for the release. One of the highlights of the Xperia Mint is a 13-megapixel camera and other features and specs include a Snapdragon S4 processor although we’re unsure whether this will be the dual-core or quad-core variety. The Xperia Mint is also rumored to have a notable 4.6-inch HD display with resolution of 720 x 1280 along with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, with microSD expansion capability.

The Xperia Mint’s 13-megapixel rear camera has 1080p video capture and also features an Exmor R sensor and the phone also looks as though it will have NFC support along with capacitive on screen buttons. Although it is likely to launch on Android 4.0 ICS there will be an update to 4.1 Jelly Bean later. With the iconic Xperia styling and an expected launch date in September, the Sony Xperia Mint could be one to keep an eye on.

We’ll now move on to the HTC flagship device, which is so far unnamed but appears to be codenamed the HTC DLX so we’ll be keeping our ears and eyes open for something more concrete on that. However other reported leaked specs are hugely promising and a standout feature for this one is its processor that has resulted in benchmarks higher than seen before. It’s thought this will be a supercharged 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 MSM8960T quad-core chipset and not the standard S4 processor that we’ve seen before. Recent tests showed standout performance, with quite a gap between its results and that of the impressive HTC One X that was left trailing behind.

Other specs and features of this HTC superphone are Adreno 320 graphics, large 5-inch 1080p HD display, 4G LTE connectivity and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC Sense 5.0. This one will also include a Scribe pen and model numbers suggest it could be a successor to the HTC Rezound. The HTC DLX is likely to be carried by Verizon and released in the fall.

As we said previously we only have limited news to go on so far for both of these handsets but if what we already think we know is accurate, then these are two extremely promising handsets on the way. We’re particularly intrigued to hear more about the supercharged processor of the HTC DLX but it will be interesting to fill in the gaps such as camera and storage information. We’ll be keeping a close eye on developments on both of these phones and shall of course, pass on that information as we hear it.

We’d like to hear your thoughts on these new Sony and HTC Android flagships. Does either one appeal to you more than the other from what you’ve heard so far? Do they make you relish the thought of what other new smartphones could be arriving in the fall? Let us know by sending your comments.
