If you’re just about to purchase a new Android smartphone then you may be considering the smash-hit of the moment, the Samsung Galaxy S3 (S III). Another phone that is being hotly anticipated though is the Motorola Droid RAZR HD so we thought we’d take a look at a face off between the Galaxy S3 vs. Droid RAZR HD in a bid to help you decide which may be the best option for you
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has already proven to be a huge success and is available on all four major U.S. carriers. However the Droid RAZR HD has been attracting attention for some time and although it has still not been released we do feel a launch is now very close and that it’s headed to Verizon. Specs that we will give you for the Galaxy S3 are obviously confirmed but those for the Droid RAZR HD are not yet official. However from various leaks and rumors we have a good idea what to expect but please note these specs are not yet confirmed.
Much of the choice between one smartphone and another is purely down to the design and feel of the handset and this is an area where the Droid RAZR HD could come out on top. Although there has been huge praise for the specs and features of the Galaxy S3 that same praise hasn’t extended to the design and there has been criticism about it not having any ‘wow factor’ and also the cheap, plastic feel of the phone. On the other hand the Droid RAZR has a beautiful sleek design and the reverse of the Droid RAZR HD is said to have Kevlar casing, according to Autoomobile, not only stylish but giving the phone a durable and solid feel.
Another point to consider is the rather dated home button on the Galaxy S3, which really could have been done away with as it was released running on Android 4.0 ICS. The Droid RAZR HD though will use onscreen keys and so will also be more suited for the 4.1 Jelly Bean update that will probably make its way to both handsets. Your choice here may also depend on what user interface you prefer, Samsung’s TouchWiz or Motorola’s Blur.
Battery life is also another important consideration especially considering the huge and growing usage of current smartphones. The Galaxy S3 comes with a 2100mAh battery for its 4.8-inch display. The Droid RAZR HD though has a larger 2500mAh battery to power a slightly smaller 4.6-inch display so could be the best bet in this department.
For those who use their smartphones a lot for photography the Droid RAZR HD may also sound tantalizing as its said to offer a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera as opposed to the 8-megapixel rear camera of the Galaxy S3. Both phones are 4G LTE compatible and the Droid RAZR HD is rumored to be powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor the same as with the US version of the Galaxy S3 (Exynos quad-core in other regions).
Ultimately both smartphones have a lot to offer but we would suggest it may be well worth hanging on until the Droid RAZR HD finally hits the shelves before making up your mind as to which would suit your needs best and of course then you will also know the prices to compare. If you’re considering waiting then we will throw another couple of upcoming smartphones into the mix that may also be worth thinking of.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2, successor to the original and very successful Note, is to be unveiled on August 29 and rumored for a reveal on the same date is a new Sony flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia TX. Both of these are highly anticipated Android phones but the only one that we feel could actually release running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the Galaxy Note 2, another factor to consider though not yet confirmed.
We already know that the Galaxy S3 is a notable smartphone but looking at others coming up it does seems that we’re rather spoilt for choice right now with some very impressive Android phone offerings on the way. If you simply can’t wait any longer then the Galaxy S3 is a solid option. However if you want to wait just a few more weeks other choices will be available that could sway your opinion.
