ZTE Apache sporting 8-core CPU might arrive in 2013

If you are one that is quite impressed with smartphones that sport a quad core processor, you’ll probably be even more impressed with a smartphone that doubles the cores to a rather impressive 8 cores. It appears that the smartphone processor game is going to possibly take a leap sometime next year, from the quad core processors of today, to 8 core processors if the latest rumour turns out to be spot on.

Apparently the Apache might be making an appearance in the mobile space in 2013, no not a new attack helicopter mobile game, but rather the ZTE Apache smartphone, which Unwired View reports is an 8-core processor packing handset.

Rumour of the ZTE handset that has the codename ‘Apache’ was touted on the China Times, and the smartphone is said to pack an eight core CPU from Mediatek, with the next flagship handset from ZTE sporting a 28nm ARM15 MT6599 chip.

Apparently when it comes to other specs, the ZTE Apache is rumoured to sport a 1080p HD touch screen of some size, support for WCDMA, 4G LTE, TD-SCDMA, and pack a 13 megapixel camera, but other than that not much else is known at this point.

If the ZTE Apache turns out to be the real deal it could signify that Chinese vendors are attempting to breakout of the cheaper handset market to get into the top notch smartphone game for the second time. The first time was with smartphones such as the Huawei Ascend D Quad, that unfortunately failed to impress the mobile space.

It does look like Mediatek is gearing up to take on the big guns in the processor space such as NVIDIA and Qualcomm though. However if the ZTE Apache 8-core handset does eventually make it to the mobile space, hopefully at some point next year, one would hope that the device would also carry a suitable capacity battery to be able to manage all those eight cores of power.

Would any of our readers love to see an 8-core smartphone come out to play next year?
