iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak release date by DreamJB

We know that there are many, many readers out there who are waiting for news of an iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and other devices and it is proving to be extremely elusive. So far the untethered jailbreak saga has proved extremely complicated with many twists, turns and scams along the way and today we have news of a further development as a release date for the untethered iOS 6 jailbreak has been made available from somebody calling themselves DreamJB.

We are a little skeptical to bring this news to you as we know that many of you have been pretty frustrated by false hopes of an iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak on several occasions already. Nevertheless we feel we should bring you the news so that you can make up your own minds, although personally we won’t believe anything particularly from Dream JB, until an official release has been made public.

At Phones Review we have urged readers to follow tweets from renowned members of the jailbreaking community such as @musclenerd, @pod2g and @p0sixninja or check out the Chronic Dev team or iPhone Dev team websites for official and genuine news about an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6. We’ll hold our hands up and admit that in the past whilst endeavoring to keep readers informed about this much-awaited jailbreak we have perhaps given too much credence to unsubstantiated claims, as have many other websites.

Please be aware though that it is never our intention to get people’s hopes up for nothing, merely to pass on the information that is out there for those who may not have heard the latest. That is why we approach news of DreamJB and claims of an untethered jailbreak so cautiously. Of course it may be yet another fake but if we didn’t pass on this news and it did turn out to be accurate we will have failed our readership.

If we are to believe the claims of DreamJB then the untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 will be released as early as December 22, just in time for Christmas. The jailbreak (6.0.1) will apparently support the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and iPod Touch (4th gen). DreamJB states that he is a “one man army” and has used an official website and also Twitter account to communicate with the jailbreaking community. He claims to have no connections with the official Dev Team and says that the first untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 will be available exclusively on his site on December 22. He has also offered an open invitation to media colleagues to discuss the Dream jailbreak.

As we previously mentioned we have always considered that if the news of a jailbreak doesn’t come from the above-mentioned sources then we would be inclined to think it was another hoax so please readers, for now we would not put too much belief in this. The prominent members of the jailbreaking community have spoken out many times now about the difficulties of this latest untethered jailbreak and so it’s difficult to believe a solution could come from an independent one-man band. However, there is always a possibility that this could in fact be genuine and it is causing waves of discussion around the Internet.

On December 7, a message on the Dream JB page read that his Twitter account had been inappropriately suspended due to certain individuals. Dream JB added that members of the jailbreaking community were invited to contact him via email but have not responded. What’s more Dream JB risks the wrath of jailbreakers by saying that the community has become “egotistical.” This is because Dev Team members seem to have dismissed the jailbreak implying that it’s virtually impossible for somebody not connected to the dev teams to come up with it.

The latest update to the DreamJB page has been posted today (December 10) and says that proof of the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak will be posted both there and on Twitter on Wednesday, so only two more days to go before we could possibly find out if this claim has any substance to it. The DreamJB page goes on to say that a video will be posted as proof and “will be a single-take shot of the entire jailbreak process, including a restart and usage of the device to prove it is untethered. It will be uploaded as raw video straight from my camera to YouTube. So no edits in any form. Thank you all for your patience and support.”

That sounds clear enough so now all Dream JB has to do is deliver! We’ll certainly be following developments on this and will bring you further news as we hear it. Meanwhile don’t hold your breath and if this turns out to have any validity at all it will be a pleasant surprise. We’re really interested to hear your views on this. Are you one of the many who are still avidly awaiting the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak? Do you think the claims of Dream JB have any substance? Let us know with your comments.
