Huawei Nova 2S announced!

#

Huawei is a company that will never stop. They just passed Apple in the smartphone race, and its nearing up on Samsung’s tail. Investing in many technologies and network solutions across many countries, it is safe to say the Huawei is aiming high. Consequently, the smartphone department is nothing different, as they recently launched the Mate 10 Pro/Lite and the Honor V10. Excellent smartphones for different budget options. And now, they released the Huawei Nova 2S in China, boasting excellent performance for a decent price. So, let’s see what this device can offer.

Design

The Huawei Nova 2S is a gorgeous device to look at. The glass and aluminum finish give the device a premium look and feel in the hand. It has a little curvature around the edges, which makes holding the device easier. On the front, you will find the 6” IPS display with 2160×1080 resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It has almost non-existant bezels, and despite that, they managed to put a home button with a fingerprint sensor on the bottom chin. The bottom is clean, with the cameras and flash in the top left corner, and a Huawei logo in the middle.

Features

The Huawei Nova 2S will boast big internals. A Kirin 960 processor will be the chipset of choice, built internally by Huawei. It will be accompanied with either 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB internal storage. These specs will give the device a long year span for its durability and performance. And the battery is not excluded from this boast either. It is capped at 3340mAh and has fast charging, so even if you drain it during the day, you can get up to 50% in 30 minutes.

Especially relevant in this device is the camera, where Huawei is continuing this year’s trend of dual-lens setups. On the back, you will find a 16MP RGB sensor and a 20MP monochrome sensor. Both have an f/1.8 aperture and will provide excellent photos in most conditions. Color saturation is excellent, and the monochrome sensor will increase the sharpness and detail of the pictures. Therefore, that will be excellent in low-light situations, as the Nova 2S will surpass many other competitors. On the front, you will also find a dual-lens setup, which is rarely implemented in any device at all. The first lens will have a 20MP with f/2.0 aperture, while the second will be a 2MP sensor. We suspect that this is implemented for portrait mode pictures, which gained in popularity the past few months.

The Huawei Nova 2S will come with Android Oreo 8.0 out of the box, running the EmotionUI skin on top of it. As we have seen before, the skin offers many features and customization, alongside various implementation that make your device fast. Opposite of other manufacturers, the device will come in few color options: Black, Gray, Red, Rose Gold and Blue.

Pricing and availability

The Huawei Nova 2S will be priced at around $400 for the 4/64GB version, and around $500 for the 6/128GB one. It is already available for purchase in China, and will slowly be brought to other markets as well in the upcoming months.
